Quote ="IR80"Because I am a fan of RL, the way it should be played. Not the stifled rubbish we get served up each week with the inane build up and commentary. I pay my money, I am entitled to comment. RL in the form of SL is inferior to the NRL, that is why we can't beat the Aussies, our best RL players are all in the NRL.'"
When was the last time rugby league in this country any good then?
When was the RL coverage up to your standard previously?
Because unless your answer is pre 1970 then we didn't beat the Aussies then either.
Your entitled to your opinion, others are too.
In my 40 plus years of watching we've never been that close as a competition to matching the Australian equivalent.
We probably have as many very good players of international standard playing the game that can comport with Australia and New Zealand than we've had in my lifetime (I accept we may not have the 2or3 superstars we may have had in the past at any one time).
Having all our players playing in our competition and I would say SL would be much better.
But factor in exchange rates, professional rugby union and the salary cap disparity which, salary cap wise is as a result of the RFL evening out strategy that's seen the biggest reason for the stagnation of our competition and is it any wonder.
I like a lot of what elstone is trying to do, but we can't expect them to change overnight the 10/15 years of steady decline.
It will take at least as long to reignite it.
Last night whilst not the greatest was a good honest play off scrap, tight and really tense in parts.
Salford fans were fantastic, decent effort from Wigan fans but nothing special.
Pretty good atmosphere at the game, roll on next week.
