| Quote ="Bulls Boy 2011"A simple advert consisting of big hits, tries, breaks, celebrations and desperation with a voice over over the top of it would have done more for the game than this trash even if it would have been a generic advert.
Then have another advert building up to Warrington vs Leeds. A video, a history of Warrington/Leeds rivalry starting from black and white clips (retro) from the 60's to 80's then hit colour with various clips from Super League meetings between the two. All voiced over with a distinct voice (ala Voss in the SOO ads). Finishing with a clips of both captains staring at each other over the SL trophy to show what they will be starting to compete for. 'The road begins here' type of feeling.'"
Disagree. Preaching to the choir is pointless. We are "egg chasers' to most of the sports fans across the UK. The Wiggins/Tompkins advert was genius, because if you weren't a RL fan, you were still captivated by what Wiggins was talking about....you'd have no idea who the "jogger' was until the end, when the (at the time) Nations sporting hero declared that RL was too tough for him!
Showing tackles (as far as your average soccer fan thinks) is just Rugby...and then we get lost in the mistake that there's only one egg and we all chase it. Leeds v who? Old footage interlaced with new of what....tackles and passing and tries.....is it Union? Is it League....no, to your average sports fan it's RUGBY.....and to me a generic ad is worthless.
Like Wiggins, I'd have aimed for a more renowned sporting hero for the country.....Anthony Joshua maybe? The Brownlees are brilliant at what they do but they aren't superstars.

| How does this sport sell itself if it doesn't have any personalities?
a year ago it was the Bradley Wiggins advert before that Jonny Vagas now the Brownlees, and you guys want a bigger star?
So what any neutral person can tell is league has no personalities to follow!
and you all moan rugby league doesnt know how to market the game but obviously you guys haven't got a clue either.

By using personalities that are know, like Wiggins and Vegas

no...that was 5 years ago.....keep up.

The Brownlees are not to blame for the damp squib that the current advert is......the script writers are, as is who ever signed off on it.

To deliver a meaningful and thought provoking message that will encourage a reaction (switching a game on)? Nope.....would you rather a Northern accent or an Aussie one to cement the idea that we're a local pastime?
Quote ="mrpurfect"and you all moan rugby league doesnt know how to market the game but obviously you guys haven't got a clue either.'"
Thanks. As I type this in my office, surrounded by plaques, awards, trophies won in the UK, USA and Australia/New Zealand for marketing in a B2B and B2C environment and more lately in a sports environment , I'll try to take solace that somewhere there's someone who has better ideas but isn't prepared to declare them, but instead "criticise others".
Come on Einstein.....tell us what you'd do.....

| The brownlees actually follow rl, as does wiggins as does Jonny vegas. Who does AJ support? I'd say it's arguable that the Brownlees are near on a par with wiggins, and the choice of 'celebrity' isn't a problem.

I understand preaching to the choir is pointless, but when an advert such as the Brownlee brothers one which comes across as patronizing and does not showcase our sport at all does more harm than good. And it annoys the choir very much as you can see by the reaction towards it. Wiggins was a different kettle of fish. On the back of a highly successful 2012 (especially the home Olympics) we had a national hero promoting our sport with positive terminology. Many think Wiggins is a tough bloke due the nature of his training and sport and the mindset he needs for his races. To essentially 'give that up' by proclaiming RL is too tough for him got people talking. The Brownlee brothers one attempts to re-create this idea but it should have been off the back of a successful 2016 Olympics, however timing apart, it just comes across as an amatuerish and quite frankly patronizing attempt.

Yes it does come across as just rugby. And that there is only one egg. But at least there's action from our sport being showcased to entice someone to maybe just give it a look. The Brownlee advert was boring at 3 minutes of just talking really with no actual rugby action. I'm not a fan of generic adverts at all, but a generic one would have been much better than this. It would have had action, yes, maybe outsiders would not know which code it was, but in 3 minutes of the Brownlee one, unless you were a fan, how would viewers differentiate between the two codes anyway? Apart from the ending where it says SUPER LEAGUE Starts 1st February 2018. Which would have been on the end of an action packed generic one anyway?
Quote ="Call Me God"Like Wiggins, I'd have aimed for a more renowned sporting hero for the country.....Anthony Joshua maybe? The Brownlees are brilliant at what they do but they aren't superstars.'"
Maybe Joshua would be a good fit. But if we are going to market it right in my opinion we need to go away from other sports stars. I don't think any other sport (I probably am wrong here so please correct me if I am) well from what I have seen anyway, no other sport uses athletes from other sports to promote their own.

| As daft as it sounds in my opinion the best 'celebrity' we had to promote the sport was a quick 20 second interview in the rain with Russell Crowe. Deep down I want to be a rugby league player.
Maybe he'd be willing to do a proper advert for Super League. Not this Johnny Vegas or Brownlee type attempt but a genuine advert very much like The Rock did for the NFL's AFC Championship game.

| How can you pluck a name to advocate RL that weve no knowlede has any interest in the game. The game would then be a laughing stock for just paying someone to say a few lines and i doubt the money offered would touch the sides of AJs bank balance, so again it comes down to someone whos got a genuine interest in the game.

AJ will have responsibilities to the television companies covering his fight with Parker later this year...SKY SPORTS BOX OFFICE, so any promotional work that gets him in front of a camera for SKY would count......so no, it wouldn't cost the earth and maybe even gratis......remember, this is a SKY advert for a SKY product, but let's say it is cost restrictive. Then Spend the money saved on paying Joshua on a decent script writer or marketing design bod, because the current video with the Brownlee Brothers is as bad a promotional video as I have ever seen and stands more chance of being ridiculed and making us a laughing stock than having one of the most recognisable sportsmen in the world promoting the game.

| Aren't the Brownlee brothers big Rhinos fans?
It's kind of amusing as a fan, but is unlikely to generate much neutral interest. The short, snappy ones are best, but as someone said, why would the BBC be interested in advising people to watch a different broadcaster every Thursday and Friday? I expected more from Sky though.

How this advert will attract someone new to watch our sport i do not know.'"
I've just watched it and it's terrible! I can see what they've tried to do but it hasn't worked and it just cringeworthy, there's no class about it.
A far cry from:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTQY6NcM2Ec
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2Q3LQGHEl8
www.dailymotion.com/video/x1aar36
and a fair few others.
However, away from this one advert shown to only those who might be sat in front of the tele at a coincidental time, that's even if they have subscription packages (many don't); i have not seen any kind of advertisement for the new SL season.
I live in Manchester, the place where the GF is held. You wouldn't know that RL existed at the moment. There's absolutely nothing anywhere about it.

| At the heart of that is a decent idea, but the execution is bloody terrible.
If they'd interspersed examples of other athletes, and used RL match and training footage to compare and contrast, it might have achieved the objective - which I'm reasonably sure was to show the level of fitness and athleticism of RL players.
That effort however, is insipid and completely uninspiring; very poor indeed.

Isn't Prince Harry the Rugby League patron or something like that? Wont get much higher profile than him, especially with what he has going on this year.

Yeah im sure he wouldn't have had any real commitments around the time of filming. I don't really see the great fuss about it, I think the Brownlees profile combined with their interest in the game is about right and its not really any more wooden or cringe worthy than the adverts that have gone before, theyre not actors.

I think we are seeing that as a shallow gesture, he will probably watch around 50 Union games before he watches 1 League game. Don't think he has ever gone out of his way to promote the sport.

Firstly give him chance I believe the lads rather busy at the moment - it may shock you but the world doesn't revolve around RL.
Also he and William are on record as liking the sport as youngsters whilst I believe Prince Philip as a bit of a Fev fan.
