| Quote ="Alan"Ok. I was the Leigh fan starting the thread. As it was an unusual move, I thought maybe it might have been of interest to fans of other clubs - even SL ones.
Despite my flagrant bias, and being half blinded by my red & white specs, (and the other half by my oversized flat cap) I did suggest that it may not work well for Toronto - check the original post.
I know some Leigh fans may be bitter, twisted and biased - although there is a rumour that some fans of other clubs are similarly afflicted
- but we are entitled to hold opinions about matters relating to RL. I know our ridiculously short tenure in SL, which I am on record as stating was fully deserved, doesn't qualify us to hold any opinions, but if you don't like them, you can always ignore them, rather than repeatedly display your contempt for all things Leigh-related.
I await the comments from 'qualified' contributors (i.e. from SL teams) when Toronto attempt something similar next season.
'"
There’s already a 4-page thread on the Leigh board with your fellow Fans sticking the boot in. The Toronto obsession from Leigh fans (not you in particular) is tiresome now.
Everyone is of course entitled to an opinion, and to be challenged on it too. My post was more aimed at Maurice to be honest, I see he’s scarpered back to the safety of the Leigh board to have a moan.
I’m sure there’ll be a logical reason behind the fixtures, like work being carried out at their stadium.

That would be a weird study.
By the way Alan, I’m not inferring that air travel (or any travel) isn’t tiring, I’m questioning Call Me God’s theory that this tiredness can carry on for two days after an 8hr flight, and therefore give sides a disadvantage.

| The reason were playing 11 away is because the stadium is city owned and has a dome over the pitch, not the stands, during the winter to allow for soccer and other community sports to be played in the winter. This comes off late April at which point the Wolfpack can start using it. Last year the home opener was May 6th, 2018 we are playing over a week earlier. The upgrades are only potentially affecting the first few home games if they aren’t competed on time, a city run project usually is late, and that’s why we have notified some of the first clubs to play in Canada not to book their trips yet.
Perez has mentioned in a few interviews that we won’t be looking at any major stadium upgrades or relocations until we get to SL (cough 2019 cough). Without a stadium that has a roof we will still be in the predicament of not being able to play until late April due to the weather which is why i believe we will play a few home games in our Manchester base to try and grow the brand in the UK as well as to allow for a more even playing field. Any new NA teams will be in the same situation as Montreal, NY and Boston have similar weather if not worse (Montreal) so playing “local” away games won’t be an option in the future unless again teams have a closed roof stadiums.
This might give us a bit of an advantage but the whole Wolfpack concept is meant for SL and FT teams that can come over a few days early to acclimatize. Travel is a given in NA sports so that’s why no one here is fazed by this. Ii do think that 11 straight games can negatively affect the players as they will miss their family, not everyone can come down for the whole summer due to work or other obligations, and the crowds might be affected by not having a chance to miss the game.
I can’t wait for next season to start and truly believe that the Championship will be the league to watch next year!

Ok DGM - points accepted. If there had been any agenda to get Toronto into SL, they certainly wouldn't have had to start life in Championship 1!
I don't know whether this will be an advantage or not to Toronto - they could lose 5/6 of their opening eleven away games, and then face a steep climb to make the 8's. I raised it as a point of interest - I certainly haven't seen anything like this before.
Even our pitch maintenance 'only' has us scheduled to play five consecutive away games in 'Summer'. (including visits to Toulouse and Toronto inside 14 days - almost as taxing as visits to Dewsbury & Batley in a similar time frame! )

| The accepted jet lag equation is one day recovery per hour time difference, with East to wet recovery being harder. So 4 days after arrival you will be at your best either side, but that ain't an advantage. Super 8's stats say your chance of victory playing opposition who have travelled through time zones is 20% greater, but what do they know.
Ignoring the Hull troll, I am 100% behind TW playing SL asap by either winning a place or by franchise but integrity must be paramount

Thanks for the very scientific theory on jet lag.
And how does your 20% figure differ to the greater chance of winning at home vs away? I’m sure there’s no correlation.

| The stats were 20% greater based on the fact that home win percentage was higher in the first place, eg If 60% of fixtures were home wins it was 72%.

Interesting if true. I can’t be d to dig into the data myself, so I’ll take your word for it. I would suggest though, that the data set over the past 3 seasons is a relatively small sample to draw any conclusions on, and there are certainly other variables involved.

Quote Recovering from jet lag depends on the number of time zones crossed while traveling. In general, the body will adjust to the new time zone at the rate of one or two time zones per day. For example, if you crossed six time zones, the body will typically adjust to this time change in three to five days.
Jet lag is temporary, so the prognosis is excellent and most people will recover within a few days.'"
The reality is that if you leave on Friday at 10.35 am on the sponsors flight, you will arrive at 6.35pm on your time, but actually 4 hours earlier......I am a seasoned international traveler and no matter what precautions you take (hydration/ eating the right foods etc) this will mess with your body because when the home team are sitting down to their evening meal at 7pm local time, your body thinks it's 11pm.......
Day 2, Saturday you'll wake up feeling fresh and fine, but your body and mind will tire quickly and you'll be knackered again by 7pm local time.....and Day 3 is normally when the worst of the Jet Lag hits.....day three or as we call it GAME DAY! There are 5 Time Zones crossed between Manchester and London.....even at the high end estimate of 2 a day, you still come up short in recovery time for visiting side.
I'm no doctor, but the sites that popped up when I googled this seem to agree with me.....and as I say, I travel internationally on a regular basis.

Just lol, utter tripe, there's no empirical studies that prove performance drops off, basically you have no concept as to how prepared/professional people deal with a minor 4-5 hour time diff. You're as likely to be effected emotionally than directly physiologically. Even a basic 30-60 min shift in sleep for 4 days would negate the time diff totally.

Well it looks as though they are planning to play some of their "home" games in Manchester as the ground in Toronto will still not be ready for the allocated matches despite the 11 away games initially

Sooo not paying attention at all to the fact that the stadium isn't owned by us and isn't available until late April thing are ya?
Growing pains as its our first crack at the new schedule with the earlier start to the season. It’s unbalanced and we will see what the negative impacts of it are on us and the other teams but it is what it is.
As far as the whole travel thing football teams travel for UCL/EL games to Russia and come back for weekend games in PL. Players travel, it’s a thing, they still perform as they are professionals. Yes it’s going to be tough on the semi pro teams but we are a Pro team meant for SL and we are earning our spot. If we were dropped in SL people would be ed that we got bumped up without earning it.
Canada loves the sport, we hope that we can contribute to the game as whole and everyone prospers through bigger TV contracts but for now deal with the growing pains.

Professional athletes are well accustomed to this routine....specially as they have their own jets to get them there in the ultimate comfort. Butchers and Tyre fitters from Batley on the other hand...........sorry, but this gives Toronto a massive advantage in their home games.

Is it Toronto's problem that the Batley team isn't made up of professional athletes? If the future of the sport in the UK is going to involve long-haul travel, then its down to everyone to get used to that.
