Kodi is a bit dodgy to say the least but agree that Murdock is amongst the worst of the worst in terms of theft/not paying his dues.'"
All internationals and the challenge Cup need to be on free to air tv. It's criminal the recent test against Samoa wasn't. Sadly for Super League we need the big money sky pays to show games exclusively, the money from free to air wouldn't compare.

| I have said for a couple years now that the UK TV market is way behind the times and needs a big overhaul.
It's crazy that the rest of the world can watch Saturday PL games which are not available on TV in the UK.
And it is a way Sky can renegotiate contracts on thier actual worth.
People want a tailored on demand service.

| Perhaps this is the opening for discussions with Sky re: the previous deal which should accelerate our discussions for the structure going forward.
Its an interesting change and one that has come earlier than i though, and a major change in Sky's business model. The atomisation of content will probably be the biggest change since the advent of Pay-tv.
There is a chance we could be at the forefront of it, a rugby league channel exists already, Rugby League needs to take control/ownership of it and for it to become the portal and starting point for RL.

| Quote ="Saddened!"The thing with Kodi is that it just doesn't work does it. You can technically 'watch' things on it, but it's instable, the frame rate and resolution if often terrible, the sound is terrible. It's not anything like the real thing, it's as bad if not worse than watching movies that have been taped in the cinema on a camcorder.
This publicity is just unbelievable. It's a paid advert by Sky. They've paid the journalists to write about the significant reductions, but there won't actually be any. Premier League football is going to be split across two football channels at £18 each. So to get BT Sports, and both Sky football channels you'd have to pay £59 just for that, plus £30 ish for the lowest package. Throw broadband and phone in and you are at £130 a month.
Rugby League will get screwed here too I feel. We'll be lumped into some 'boutique' channel with Kabbadi and Badminton and they'll use that to say the sport attracts less viewers than it used to.'"
I watch things in prestine 1080p HD on Kodi. Sport, films, TV shows.

The piece I read stated that Sky would continue to honour all existing contracts. So it doesn't sound like we'll be doing any negotiating until this current deal runs out in 2021 (I think?)
By which point the new structure might have shown Sky just how much money they can make from our sport.

sky will honour the contract, but what if the rfl is unhappy about being put on a lower budget channel, lower subscribers to that channel could impact future negotiations, even more now since our coverage has been diluted to just full games and a twenty minute highlight show on a monday (take away the ad break time)

Its more that it might be in both parties interest at this point to re-negotiate (if not now, in the near future) Our Structure is changing so what we are selling to them is going to change and they have major changes in their business model, there could be a much more mutually beneficial arrangement in this new world.
I mean, a Rugby League Channel already exists.

True, I think if the leagues are restructured then it would need the green light from Sky before it could happen, so it would make sense.

Depends what our current contract says really. At the minute the RL seems to be on a different channel with each match they show, so I suspect the RFL originally agreed to be shown on whatever channel Sky wanted. If that is the case then they wouldn't have much of an argument.

we've gone from second to soccer/football for best viewing figures a few seasons ago to now be lagging behind a 'sport' like darts and playing second fiddle to a pub game on a thursday night
the rfl were too quick to sign the deal so probably signed upto what you say, poor management from our governing body ateotd

Oh, it is. Try reading the Digital Economy Act 2017, which came in force in April, as a starting point.
Possessing a kodi box isn't illegal. Watching pirate streams on it is. I hope the court summons doesn't spoil your viewing.

you sound like you've got your knickers in a twist
so you reckon that every household in the world or even just the uk that has ever watched any pirate streams is going to get a court summons for doing so?
yeah right
more like the companies that stream the content will be targeted first and that their streaming is closed down or else they will face severe action

| I had sky for 25 years, paying full whack. I got fed up of terrible and arrogant customer service. I switched to BT and pay a fair amount for a box which, if i'm honest, isn't as good as skys. however the much cheaper coast and better customer service equals things out.
however we only get sky sports 1 and 2, so with this likely to be football i'm not sure what we can do

| If only RL had the same problem, but sometimes the only way to watch a live premier league game is to find a streaming site. Despite the option being available in a vast number of countries in the world to pay to watch said game (possibly free in some countries), it's just not possible to do the same in the UK. Is it a surprise that folk in the UK turn to the likes of Kodi when they don't have any other option?
Ever been abroad in Europe? Strange how the bars all have every premier league game on, plus all the top foreign matches!

I started reading it, but unless you're an Oxford/Cambridge qualified lawyer, I doubt you could make full sense of it. The jist seems to be that it opens up the possibility that streaming (sic) "illegal" content could be an offence, but the main point is around the provision of copyrighted material on the internet.

| Knackers to sky, other methods are available.
If you're a frivolous goodie goodie with a conscience and worry about premier league footballers trousering a million a month going hungry then crack on having your pants pulled down.
Kodi, magbox, Zgemma box. Shit loads of options out there.
