True.
Our hooker Liam Hood did it to you last Friday, while it benefitted us, I don't like it.
Refs need to make the call, intentional or not.

Bit him on the ar5e though as they took the 2 points but that gave us a break and chance to have a breather. We looked dead on our feet in that set.

Penalty every time, I think. Mcllorum did it quite a few times. One instant was a head knock with a blood wound ref should have stopped play but awarded penalty first for obstructing the PTB then stopped play for the injury.

Well in that case, the ref got it wrong.

| Detest it. The dummy half could easily turn around and pass/run the other way.
Goes against the spirit of the game and anyone doing should be told to "play on"!
Also players stopping and looking or shouting at the ref wanting a penalty or holding ten fingers up to say "send him to the bin ref", and diving/feigning injury, oh and arguing with/swearing at the officials.
Come on lads, you aren't Wendyballers but your pathetic gamesmanship is making you look like those pathetic excuse for sportsmen from that sport.

I actually dislike the blockers obstructing than the chasers pushing the blockers in the back.
I think a rule should come in that states these blockers are obstructing the chasers if they are just stood there with no intention of playing the ball.

It's cynical and, yes, all teams can be coached to do it but it'll make the game worse.'"
I'm sorry, but having just watched the replay again, it was a penalty all day long. He was obstructing the mark, not just in the ruck. He made no effort to move. Houghton literally couldn't pass to the left without going around him (which he shouldn't have to) and couldn't scoot.
Had he laid down and rolled at, he wouldn't have obstructed. You can't just kneel upright on the mark and expect not to get penalised.

| Wellsy - I was making a general point rather than specific to the Trinity game. For what it's worth I've watched the highlights since I posted and I too think that in both incidents the penalties were the right call.

| Proper grubby tactic, is there a rule to give a player ten minutes in the bin, for blatant cheating?
Though if there was, on this occasion the incompetent ref missed it.

Just showing initiative?
Seriously though, when does the NRL start?
SL is unwatchable.

Indeed, surely the R.F.L. or the ref's could send out a warning to clubs that this kind of unsportsmanlike behavior will be punished with a sin-binning.
I doesn't take an idiot to see when it's done deliberately, on saying that, by that analogy I'm inferring that Master James is an idiot.

| Wow players using the rules "bending" them even. That doesn't happen, it's all imagination, whatever the "problem" it's the match officials .
You can't help but smile at times.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing
Generally I tend to think the defender deserves to be penalised for being in the way, even if the attacker has cynically passed it at him, but I draw the line at forward passes! Add to that the fact Brough was making an attempt to clear the ruck and its one of the silliest decisions I've seen in a while.

| Cynical tactics have crept in to the game for years. Unfortunately with greater rewards comes greater desire to succeed.
Coaches look for anything that can give their team an edge. We need the RFL to be ready to amend rules sooner rather than once a year.
My personal hate is when a tackled player puts their ankles together and makes like a dolphin, faining been held down. Often winning a penalty because refs are unsighted or behind play.
The sooner we penalise "cheating" the better. I assume we will have to wait for the Aussies to take the lead.

It's not much of an issue in Aus, their rucks are far far cleaner and quicker. There's much less messing around from the tacklers and tacklees in the NRL. Less milking and much less Wendyball style moaning and claiming for penalties than our Wendyball wannabe players we have in Super League. That's why the likes of Josh Hodgson looks so good over there. I don't think he's a patch on Daryl Clark and Clark would be absolutely amazing over there with the cleaner rucks they have. But because he doesn't get as much chance to shine around our painfully slow messes that our rucks are he didn't get a look in for England in the Autumn and with our Super League refs and just one ref on the pitch we had in the Autumn Hodgson just looked distinctly average in those games.

| The Josh Jones one was probably the most ridiculous I've seen, poor call from Child.
I still don't think there is anything wrong with the rule, if the defender is interfering with play then he should be penalised, if not as in the case above Jones should have been pulled for a forward pass.

| I don't think they even need to bin players to stop it - if the ref thinks they're milking (or thrown the ball purposely into a defender), then simply penalise them for unsportsmanlike conduct - if they're losing possession, they'll soon stop.
I hate it when a ref calls milking at a play the ball when the attacker is either whaling around, or trapping the defender in - if you're calling milking, blow the whistle and penalise it - would soon nip it in the bud.
