| Surely it should be Wakefield after clinching a further year of misery & dread.
The Aussies chucked Brisbane in this year & look how that's worked out.
Sorry, in my alcoholic haze I was comparing the two comps, silly me.

No chance for Wire they struggled to get in the top 8 never mind the play offs. Don't think the wire would want it, too much of a risk, its going to be there year next season is the annual fan call.

| If Giants ever want to make the next step in being seen as serious contenders for Finals then they need to play in as many big games as possible. The spot should be offered to us and to turn it down in anyway would be such a negative move. Marketed well and the people of Huddersfield will turn up.

not forgetting the neutrals. sure there'd be a few from the local area that'd jump at the chance to see NRL teams right on our doorstep

There was a system in place. It was only after it was published that people pointed out the possibility of only 2 teams qualifying under the stated criteria that they added the "RFL choice". To be honest, if they said at the time that the third place would go to the highest placed league table team that had not qualified by another route I think many would have accepted it.

| Huddersfield need to play in more big games and get to some finals to boost awareness and become more popular. While they may make a loss playing the game, as I believe they have to pay for opposition coming over, I think in the long run it would be worth it.

| We shouldn't have to ask the question as to who the RFL will select.
This "we'll make it up as we go along" approach by the top brass at RFL HQ has to stop. There are at least 2 of them not fit to remain and I guess they were probably involved in setting the criteria for who is involved in the World Club Series.
They should have included a further criterion. I.e. "If the above criteria do not lead to 3 teams being identified, the third team to be involved in the World Club Series shall be the team finishing the season the next highest in the Super League table."
Everyone would then have known where they stood. The criteria they did manage to set leads to Leeds and Wigan being in the WCS. The criterion they should have set leads to the third team being Huddersfield. No debate needed.

| Quote ="mikej"So we know that Leeds and Wigan are 2 of the 3 teams to qualify for next years WCC. The third choice comes down to the RFL. Who will they pick?
Saints finished second to Leeds in the regular season so would stake a claim.
We all know though that RL is all about the situation at the end of the playoffs, and Huddersfield finished above Saints.
Saint Helens V "australian" would probably have a bigger draw.
If you believe the talk from last year would the RFL give the game to the team who "turned it down" (they actually were never asked)
Warrington won their place last year on "post playoff standing". On consistency surely they should be offered it to the giants.
OR will they throw a complete curve ball and offer it to the CC losers ............
'"
Wigan still have a shot but technically only Leeds qualify so far. the spots this year are
CC WINNERS
HUB CAP WINNER
GF WINNER

| If its 'rfl choice' and an RFL competition the RFL should be underwriting it, promoting it, and governing it.
But as is Nigel Woods plan, the RFL want all the plaudits if it is successful, and none of the responsibility for making it so. The only reason there is a question of whether its Huddersfield or someone else is because of the RFL and their desperation to have no responsibility for anything.
This should be an RFL competition, marketed by the rfl, underwritten by the RFL, played at Neutral venues, played by the 3 highest finishing clubs in the RFL competitions.
But it isnt. So we get what we had last year, 3 games played in front of full houses at small stadiums with 3 clubs needing to milk every penny to cover costs they had to underwrite and no thought or investment in growing it.
82k watched England RU last night, almost certainly we wont play the WCC in three stadiums that could possibly beat that total cumulatively.

| The third game might historically develop into a "made up" one anyway and its only the winners of SL and NRL that really matters:
Last Year:
St Helens (1) v Sydney (1)
Wigan (2) v Brisbane (icon_cool.gif
Warrington (5) v St George (11)

Doesn't even need to be as difficult as that. You just set an order of who gets selected, and if one club qualifies under two categories, go to the next category. It's easy really.
1. Grand Final winners (WCC)
2. League Leaders
3. Challenge Cup winners
4. Grand Final runner-up
5. 2nd in league
6. 3rd in league
It really is simple.

| so its saints who get the nod
pretty disappointing as it seems a format for those who can afford it and those who cant!
if its a bond that clubs have to pay out and get back, why cant the RFL go 50/50?
