| Great game.
Backed NSW half time, Qland full time and still wondering how I didn't collect.
Did make me nearly vomit a bit when they ran through the teams pre-match with a comment on each player.
So and so was raised by a single mother who used to drive the team bus to all games.
So and so helps little old ladies across the road.
So and so does lots and lots of work for animal charidies.
Etc, etc.

I quite liked that, as a bit of fun, ("Gallen has had three fights as an amateur boxer and won them all. So there"icon_wink.gif but some of them were a bit cringey.
They do put on a good show overall though.

Or where defensive players move into that gap because of a poor defensive read and throw themselves to the floor.
For some reason we then need to look at whether the ball was caught on the outside of the passers shoulder.

Quote ="JEAN CAPDOUZE"TV ratings for SoO were amazing. 4.053 million viewers tuned in around Australia. That means one in five Australians were watching.
www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/leag ... zrrtv.html
This is amazing when you consider that the game is popular mostly in only half of the nation. (yet 420,000 people watched in Melbourne, which is more than one in ten people in Melbourne!).
Translate that to the British population, it would mean that 11 million Brits were watching. Rugby league can only dream of such attention. But has a British soccer game ever achieved 11 million viewers?'"
I had reported TV ratings of over 4 million based on an article in the Sydney Morning Herald. The actual capital city TV audience according to OzTam ratings, as reported in [i The Australian[/i was just under 2.5 million:
[iOf the 2.487 million viewers who tuned in to watch the Blues win at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium, 1.288 million lived in Sydney.
There were 747,000 viewers in Brisbane, 426,000 in Melbourne and 86,000 in Adelaide. The game was not screened in Perth.[/i
If the SMH figure is correct then the rest of the audience must have been from rural areas.

You are talking to a brick wall. RoosterBooster does not think. He is the water carrier for the Newtown Jets and has trouble with abstract issues like audience ratings.

Not rural - regional.
There is nothing rural about Newcastle, Wollongong or the Gold Coast.
Slanted reports love to quote only the capitol city figures, but the strongest support for Rugby League in Australia comes from regional NSW and Queensland, where SOO is watched by well over half of households - some figures going close to 80%.

I have no idea why they talk about capital city ratings here and not total audience. You were right on the 4mill total audience.
Also they are wrong about Perth, it was shown live and drew 107,000 audience.

They only lose ratings from a few middle sized cities like Geelong and Ballerat, but League loses Newcastle, Wollongong, Gold Coast, Cairns, etc etc etc - adding up to about 3 million potential viewers in the strongest league areas in the world, because League is the only game in town in NSW and Queensland country areas.

| Of more interest than who watched and where, is that Brett Morris fractured his shoulder and damaged ligaments when he scored, but played on and stopped Boyd scoring a try to equalise.
That's what RL and Origin is about, and as a proxy Maroon, I salute him.

Josh Morris is out for several weeks, he was diagnosed with a posterior cruciate ligament injury but still got up and run down Greg Inglis as he surged through the line.

Billy Slater and Cam Smith are doubtful for Origin 2, Slater more than Smith, while Cooper Cronk is gone for the series.

No they're not. Advertisers pay the money as it's the only terms of reference they have.
OzTam works by ONLY 3,500 households in the whole of Australia that have a box to press every time they turn the telly over and who it the home turns over. That's it, then they multiply it and come to the figure. ALso a programme is registered as being watched if it on for a few minutes. Think about that from the over 150 mins on telly the other night.
It's not accurate, it's an average.

[iOzTAM ratings are viewing estimates drawn from actual viewing behaviour in a panel of homes that is representative of the wider population.[/i

Don't shoot the messenger purely because you don't like what's being said. 1 in 5 people in Australia watched it live. Oh please.

That is the same method that all figures like these are based on.
Its a broad based number of viewers and they extrapolate the figures.
All Political Polls are done in the same way.
Do you think they can ask the 4 million viewers what they were watching and they all say "yes we were watching"?
Sponsors take the Oztam figures realistic enough to base their financial investments on.
That should be enough.

| It's mathematics. Sample and statistics.
"Only" 3500? If distributed across demographics randomly, such a sample size is extremely reliable when extrapolated. As I said, the error margins are within a few percent, at most. They would often be one perfect off reality.
Don't like it? Doesn't suit your own opinion? You had better challenge the foundations of mathematics then. Good luck. A Nobel Prize awaits.

I would love to hear your justification (regression analysis) to how 3500 makes a good sample size of what 20,000,000
I can't be bothered to number crunch, but true extrapolation probably requires somewhere between 10-15k to be within 12sigma limits as claimed. 3k is more than enough to get to 6sigma standard though
