The Guardian suggests that the crowd at Broncos v Widnes is actually up 700 on last years, from 2100 to just over 2800. By a process of making stats fit an agenda no matter what, attendances are clearly up by 33%. After all, who needs context when you've got an axe to grind, Mr. Eve?

Maybe the drop in crowds is due to the rise in admission prices. Is it possible to get in a superleague ground for under £20 anymore? People are being asked to pay more for what they are increasingly seeing as meaningless games.

How about £ 15 for a reserve game thats ' meaningless ' ?

£20 walk up prices at London......that's a hike of 33% on the previous year.....seems like they've given up trying to attract new fans (given they're already saying they're moving at the end of the season anyway) and are instead looking to rape the existing ones that they don't care about anyway because they won't travel to ing Kent next year

When we talk about the 'same' game last season, you've got to take into account that this is 2nd game in, and includes first home games for clubs, so mostly, you'd expect attendances to be up slightly vs same opponents. Too early to say anything accurate, but superfically, it feels like we're a bit down so far. I predict roughly 10% down over the full season.

Except some games in the first 2 rounds have been played in poor weather but the corresponding fixture from last year was played in good weather in the summer. So you'd expect those attendances to be down a little.
Plus didn't Huddersfield and Bradford have cheap season ticket deals that they don't have this season?

Exactly this. Unless the matches were played at the same time as last season, then any comparison is worthless. But I suppose it keeps anoraks like William occupied.

It's no more or less stupid than the RFL making bold claims after one round last year. It's more forgiveable mind you, because it's just a person putting a bit of text on a discussion board, as opposed to a statement made by a sporting governing body run by people on six-figure salaries.
