1. RFL office space
2. Expand the museum
3. Have a rugby league shop ( mainly for England merchandise)
4. Room hire for all events
5. Still keep a small number of rooms for Hotel use.
6. Hold rugby league events such as forums and award ceremony's
The possibilities are endless'"
7. The Cup Draws
8. The much missed RL Hall Of Fame (Remember the Bentley Arms anyone ?)
9. Retain the restaurant / bar for day to day income
10. Some form of education / community rooms, like many of the clubs have, for teaching local kids etc.
Isn't Red Hall only leased from Leeds City Council ?

| dont mention the shares
it would be a shame if the george was to go to the wall and be turned into "yuppy" flats.
i think it would be great if the RL family, all got together and made it or a part of it into a rugby league centre,as has been mentioned, the heritage centre, the RFL head offices,a RL venue for conferences, awards etc.
sadly i cant see it happening though.

| The value that has been thrown around is £1.4 million ... Well, the bottom line is that it is only worth £1.4 million if some schmuck is prepared to pay that sort of money for it.
I bet if you offered a lot less to take a loss making building off someone's hands, you wouldn't have to stump up anything like £1.4 million in this sort of market

It might not be demolished, but if no-one is investing in maintenance then it will fall to ruin in time. And then it may be demolished.

| I've said this elsewhere but is be astonished if the George didnt reopen before too long
The company that owned it made a hash of running the place, cutting corners but still over charging for poor service - that's never going to win customers

Stonehenge was built *by* an ancient society and the construction itself is of great interest with respect to understanding that society.
If the George Hotel were flattened tomorrow it would make no difference to our, or future generations', knowledge of RL history. They didn't *build* the George Hotel, they just happened to have a pint there. It doesn't "represent" a key moment. Rugby League does that. I'd prefer to look forward than through misty eyes at the past.

Are you for real ?
Without the meeting, that took place at The George Hotel, there would be no game of RL to enjoy, we would have to watch "rugger".
Ok, it's ONLY a building, but it certainly has major historical value to the game and the alternative is a small, round, blue, plaque.

| The truth is though that the meeting was going to go ahead regardless of venue - the George was not the first venue proposed. However I do think we disregard our history too easily, and having the symbol of the George as the birthplace of our game is important.

Of course, there would be other "meetings" before and after the George Hotel but, the fact is, part of the games history now belongs there.
Again, the place will most likely be "developed" and it is probably a pipe dream, to expect the RFL to move there but, we shouldn't just forget these things.
It's bad enough that too many people think that the game began with the inception of Super League

| Whether the George stands falls opens or shuts, it makes no difference that that meeting took place and we now have RL.
If it was financially viable, then fine, but other than that RL should not put money in just for historical reasons.

The RFL wont put money into the place, unless they happened to want oud of Red Hall and it suited their needs but, it would be a shame for the games history, if the place was bulldozed and there was nothing left whatsoever.
There are, of course, more pressing concerns for the game at the moment but, it is an ideal place for the "hall of fame" and it would be excellent if the place remained.
Despite what happened at Bradford, the RFL are not a charity case, there to rescue historical buildings, or iconic stadiums ??

| To be honest, it's an age old problem with listed buildings. Look nice and create atmosphere but very expensive to maintain. The only solution that could bring in enough money realistically is flats, a depressing thought.
Still if you look at how things are going, eventually city centres will be purely offices and homes, whilst we all head to out of town centres to do our shopping as they do in the USA etc.

Exactly. Obviously some people feel emotional attachment to buildings, but I'm sorry I don't. Does the existence or non-existence of the George Hotel effect the viability and growth of the game of RL. No. Therefore couldn't care less.
When it comes to stadia, one can at least [idiscuss[/i if re-location (as in the case of Wigan or Saints) may have some bearing, positive or negative, on the future of the club, but the George Hotel? Come off it.
