| Quote ="Wellsy13"So basically it has one nice shiny new stand, so it's OK?
The only reason they haven't moved is because Headingley is a great area, and lets be fair, where else is there?!'" The reason they haven't moved is because Hetherington and Caddick came in pledging to the fans that they wouldn't move. Which reflects the complete lack of will for an all-new stadium.
Therefore the existing one has been upgraded as follows over the past 20 years:
South Stand: new roof, TV facilities; public spaces underneath gutted and rebuilt £750k (1999/2000)
Rebuilt lower terracing ~£300k (2012)
Carnegie Stand:
New build £7m (2006)
North Stand:
New roof £400k (2004)
New changing rooms, centre seating, paddock seating, public bars £1.2m (1991/92, pre Hetherington)
Western Terrace:
Learning Centre & corner terracing £400k (2004)
New scoreboard & new screen £750k (2011)
Pavilion
New build/rebuild of corporate facilities £2.2m (1993, pre Hetherington)
Pavilion refurb £300k (2011/12)
Hotel (which is owned and operated by Leeds), new shop, rebuilt car park, Leeds RLFC office block & ticket office £1.5m (2000-03).
Plus the Long Bar which remains a key matchday revenue earner and was built by Leeds but is officially now Yorkshire's property.
New pitch £1m (2012)

| Quote ="Starbug"So money has been spent as much on cricket and ' nothing to do with RL ' than the actual watching the matches, so not actually the stadium
Choices yes, but still substandard for the sports supposedly premier club, paint it anyway you want, its still an early 20th century dump, with 2/3 rds of a decent stand at one end'"
Headingley Stadium, I'm sure you're aware, is much more than a place to watch / play RL (although coincidently, you can do that from the excellent corporate facilities). It was that well before Hetherington and Caddick were involved and today, it is a venue that employs more than 350 people and generates revenue 365 days a year.
I know phrases such as "prioritisation" and "long-term planning" are dirty words in the world of RL but that is what Caddick and Hetherington have had to do - and it works. You won't find many rugby clubs in the UK (either code) generating the sort of profits that Leeds are doing in order to invest in the wider business. Those new revenue streams are financing the regeneration of Headingley today.
Or, they could have just gone cap in hand to the local authority or mortgaged the club to the hilt, built some new flat-pack stands and bought up several houses in one of the most densely populated parts of the city just so that we could put a roof on the stand, then struggle to repay the finance because they hadn't worked on developing the business and new revenue streams. Hmm, tough one.

So you admit, it is a dump ,irrelivant what other clubs have or havent done, the ' stadium ' is 2/3 rds of a new stand, 2 90 year old stands and an open terrace, it serves its purpose, but it is a dump
And if Leeds had sorted out a new modern stadium you and others would have been scathing in comments of other smaller but similar structures at other clubs, it is a dump of a sports stadium

'" You do understand that the corporate facilities at Headingley which are owned by YCCC (essentially now the Carnegie Pavilion) are different to the Leeds Rugby League-owned ones (Carnegie Stand, main pavilion)? Some serve both but since they are constantly sold out for Super League games it's something of a moot point; in any event most of Leeds' revenue from these comes from the 345 days a year there isn't a Rugby League game or cricket test match on.
YCCC have established their own corporate team in an effort to drive non gameday business to their own facilities rather than those owned by Leeds but appear to be struggling a little.

I don't agree it's a "dump" at all and I'm struggling to see where I said or inferred that in my previous posts. As mentioned above, Headingley meets 'Framing the Future' standards to the letter. Has Headingley reached its full potential yet? No. But then. you'll find that the supporters and the club owners realise that.
And what qualifies you to predict what I would / wouldn't have done if a hypothetical situation had occurrred? This intrigues me.

Exactly, we are discussing the watching of RL at Headingley , and over 3/4 s of that is done in early 20th century structures, protest all you want, its a fact

Not saying it isnt, but anybody looking without emotion attached and from a ' watching ' a RL match from a point of view in the modern day would describe 80 % of it a dump

| With a bit more imagination and better use of the budget given, The York Community Stadium team has released further imagery of how they'd like the Stadium to be.
Going to be 8,000 seater which is pushed for with the below design and unit spaces required:

York City's current average crowd is nearly 4,000, and in the Blue Square Premier was around 3,000. York City Knights average crowd is in the hundreds.
Of course they're second to the football team, but like Wheels says who cares as long as the thing gets built.

| Can't understand all the negativity towards Headingley - I personnally love going to watch a game there. Don't take too much notice what colour the seats are or how it hasn't changed since the 60's. Its a great RL stadium.
