When Waterhouse is a direct replacement (and improvement) for Louis Anderson then not sure what your point is. Riley was replaced in the pecking order by Rhys Williams (and Rhys Evans) both products of the Warrington youth setup.

Why replace Anderson with an ageing Australian when you could give Blythe/McCarthy/Mitchell/Cooper/B.Evans/Laithwaite a chance is the point.

The answer to your point being that Waterhouse is a recent Australian international and the sort of overseas player that would improve any team and help develop local youngsters who can learn from the very best.

If we had signed a backrower in the mould of Weller Hauraki then I would agree with you.

Because one of the aims of franchising is create a better international team for England not Australia hence the initial comment of franchising at its best.

Signing players of this calibre improves the standard of the competition which in turn improves the standard of British players. In addition he will be able to have an impact on the young British players at Warrington.

Warrington have a relatively small number of overseas players who are all of a high quality (next year currently looks like Monaghan x2, Solomona, Waterhouse and Hodgson). Clubs should be encouraged to sign a small number of high quality overseas players in my opinion rather than a large number of mediocre players. It will be interesting to see how other squads compare.
