| Quote ="bigalf"How sure are you that Wakey's plan'B' will not require any planning permission?'"
By all accounts we won't need planning permission for the majority of the build, some parts of the build have already got permission and for the section that will need it we've already had WMDCs planning officer in and he has advised on the best design in terms of passing the planning process.
Again all of this process and the people involved in it have been in touch with Savilles and the details form part of the franchise application submitted last month.
Serious question Alf, in light of all the changes to the LDF, the Governments stance on job creation in the private sector, the recent agreement between the Highways Dept and Yorkcourt and the now non reliance of LEEDS Council on Green Party MPs ,do you genuinely expect Newmarket to be turned down at the PI?

| Quote ="The Clan"Wakefields cash is possibly 6 months away from being released
Castlefords cash, well it's anyone's guess from 18 months to never!
Castlefords PP for GH doesn't put them in a better position than Wakefeld because they are now right back at the beginning of the planning application process for WR with no guarantee it will get passed and a likelihood that it will go to PI at best.
As for plan 'B' Wakefield have one in the form of a redeveloped Belle Vue for which the funding is in place and proof of funding supplied to Savilles.
Oh! And Wakefield have a plan 'C' in the form of Oakwel with a five year contract already agreed and also provided to Savilles.
Both plan 'B' and plan 'C' formed part of our franchise application and both were formulated working hand in hand with the RFL and Savilles.
What is Castlefords plan 'B' because there is zero chance of you being in a new stadium for at least the next two years if not for the whole of the next franchise period and that's IF you get a good run at the planning process.'"
Wakefield get no cash unless the pi goes in there favor so at the moment wakefield have no cash, is this true or have i misread the situation.
I would say that having planning permission for a stadium is much better to not having planning permission and possibly not getting it all myself.
Cas get there cash when wr gets outline planning for the supermarket which as i understand it will take 6 months to a year (i know you would prefer IA'S timescales where he puts the best possible timeframes for wakefield and the worst possible for cas as its suits your agenda more but that doesnt mean they are right).
So wakefields plan b is to play at a ground they dont own and redevelop that, will the bank of ireland be ok with you occupying there land indefinatley? Wouldnt you need planning yourself if your going to seriously redevelop bv and do so on a more than temporary basis?
Moving to barnsley would kill you off as sure as moving to castleford and trinity and the rfl know it.
I dont know what castlefords plan b is, the rfl do and they are ok with it as demonstrated at the last franchise decision.
Once again you tell us how everything is going to go with the castleford stadium, did the sources that gave you this info also tell you that nm would go to pi or that thornes would fall apart (or about any of the other failed wakefield stadium plans) or do they only talk to you about the plans of castleford?

Ok, would you prefer me to bull$heet?
"Cas will definitely be playing out of a new stadium by 2013"
Or
"Cas can definitely afford their new ground"
Or
"Richard Wright never lies"
Neither of the grounds will be ready by 2013 at the earliest (if ever), either way Cas and Wakey are both in the same boat, no new stadium for the next round of franchises. Poor.
Wakefield will be denied a franchise IMO, but not because of the success of Castleford, but their own failings. Neither club has made any advancements since the last round of applications to speak of. Obviously Castleford and Wakefield aren't the only clubs who should have the finger pointed at them, but it seems the spotlight is aimed at the two calder clubs.
ATEOTD, all this bitching about stadiums between Wakey and Cas is pointless until the next round of franchise applications.

The petition is to encourage the council to act quickly on passing plans for redevelopment on the current ground and not let it drag on for months/years. Cas have planning but no funding in place. Wakey have funding in place and are waiting for the ODP to decide on planning. Who is in the stronger position?
From the outisde looking in, I'd say Wakey.

Wakefield DON'T have funding unless they get planning permission.
Now back on topic folks, this has nothing at all to do with Wakefield this is about getting a Supermarket built on Wheldon Road.

Neither do Cas unless they get planning permission for a supermarket, that is by no way a gimme! The reason the land wasn't sold to Ben baileys for houses was because the land value was nowhere near the cost of constructing a new stadium.
Taking all things into account, in all probability Cas are less likley at this stage to be able to deliver a new ground!

| Both sets of cats are willing to scratch each others eyes out because they are on unstable ground fighting over the last scraps - all the indicators are that one of these teams will be unfairly booted out and left to fend for themselves in the Championship. They both think it will come down to stadia, neither of which will be built in time to be taken into consideration anyway!

| Roll on the 26th July when we'll finally know the franchise decision. Sick to death of the whole spitefulness that franchising has created, how many threads are there these days that actually talk about what happens on the field, does anyone remember when this use to be a sport and what happened between the teams on the pitch actually mattered !?
As it stands at the moment as far as I'm aware Cas will for the foreseeable future play out of Wheldon Road and Wakey out of Belle Vue and neither club will have a nice shiny stadium any day soon no matter how much posturing, slagging off and being all knowing about each others plans goes on.
I'm actually a supporter of franchising but as long as it is a level playing field, however we know that is not the case no matter how much bullcrap the RFL feed us with their criteria based decisioning. If it were then IMO both Cas & Wakey would score very well other than the stadia against a lot of clubs. But alas we all know that the only thing that matters is nice plastic seats.
Personally if it is Cas or Wakey that lose their franchise I believe that the sport will have been weakened quite considerably and it is my opinion that less and less kids in the area will play the game and turn their talents to other sports, not good considering the amount of talent produced in the district. Also hasn't the RFL just lost £1m in funding due to the number of participants playing the game halving ? Can we afford to run this risk.
Anyway the OP put a request out to the RL family to back Cas' plans for a supermarket on Wheldon Road.
If you want to support that then please sign it...if not then don't and thanks for reading but can we please stop this thread turning into yet another bitch fest !

Well it wouldn't matter about funding if Wakefield don't get planning permission, I don't understand the point here?
Basically if Wakefield get the go ahead to build, the money is readily available? anyway this thread is becoming frivolous. Petition signed.

| Christ some of the Wakey fans just can't let it rest can they. I'm sure the neutral fans on here can figure out which fans are more worried about their future. Every thread turns into a bunch of Wakey fans trying to make out their plan is better than ours, ours won't happen and Wakeys is minutes from happening even though they've apparently felt the need to have a plan B and plan C!
This is where we're at.
Cas have planning permission to build their new ground at Glasshoughton. We had originally sold our old ground ( a handshake/verbal/subject to a few terms or whatever) to a housing developer which had been sorted quite some time ago, long before planning was granted. Around the time of us being granted planning the housing company wanted to pay less than promised and so we looked elsewhere. We now wish to sell to a supermarket building chain, which requires the councils permission for a supermarket to be built on Wheldon Road which will then release money for us to build at Glasshoughton. Also, the money raised would be far more substantial than had we sold to the land for housing development. So after all that, we just would like rugby league fans to help us fill that petition sheet if you would be so kind!
Thanks to those that have already done so!

12k? Really? Says 1184 on WMDC site.
How many from the WR area have signed? It's alright for those who don't live nearby and whose lives wouldn't be made a misery by the building of a supermarket but I'd wager many of them would be the first to kickup a fuss if one was going to be built next to their homes.

What would be the difference between a supermarket and a housing estate (in terms of misery)
Thanks to all who have signed the petition

Presumably you will welcome potential new jobs at Newmarket then. A lot of Castleford people will benefit from such a development, especially the people that have lost and will lose jobs in Cas town centre due to out of town developments!
