Just when the guy gets a chance to prove his worth to rovers and gain a regular spot in the team he comes out with this. by now we shouldn't be surprised and the fact twitter/facebook is becoming increasingly more popular amongst sport stars it could become more a regular thing (not just racist comments).
I think it should be down to the clubs to come up with policies regarding social networking and its use. They dont specifically have to ban the players from using it but just make them aware of what it can potentially do. Governance issues around social networking are massive and until now have been ignored. At the end of the day its not only his own image he is denting but the clubs as well so its the clubs responsibility to deal with this.
Could be time for us to find a new full back.

You don't need to be academically inclined to know that you can't use that sort of language. Presumably it must be in common use in the social circles he keeps which is why he seems to think it's acceptable.

When Gareth Raynor was convicted of Racially Aggravated Assault a couple of years back, it was only a further indescretion that saw him sacked by Hull FC.

In light of what happened previously I imagine this subsequent incident will see Ben Cockayne leave Rovers.

And likewise Hull should have got rid of him. Anyone with an off-field conviction for violence should surely be in breach of contract?

i agree! depending upon how deep you actually want to go it involves equal measures of degree level biology, chemistry and Nutrition before you even get to the exercise science itself. not to mention if not degree level then certainly advanced level mathmatics, and in many cases advanced diplomas in various sports related disciplines also.

I agree. if it were his first misdemeanour then rovers would probably get away with a ban/fine/reprimand but given that he's already been convicted of assault/gbh/abh or whatever it was, then surely it would tarnish the club's image too much to keep him

As much as i dislike cockayne, i don't think this warrants a loss of livelihood.

If we do, I hope their is an agreement from other clubs not to sign him, but I doubt it.

And if we do is it setting a precedent that we would expect all clubs to follow? Should the RFL be setting that code of conduct bar or a club? What of we sack him and another SL club picks him up the next week, only HKR suffer any penalty. Not sure the answer, maybe a RFL review with appropriate punishment (would imagine fine, suspension and community service relating to racial harmony). IS there any other precedents for the RFL stepping in and banning players from playing in SL? I'm guessing given some of the dubious overseas characters that have been allowed to sign probably not.
