I would suggest that most fans who support a club on a regular basis, got into the game of RL because of the club they started following. Which means that they would put the needs of their club before the needs of the game.

I would fall into that category. as far as I am concerned if my club are not playing in a competition I have no interest in the competition, and would not care if the competition failed.

By example: I am an exiled Trinity fan; had Trinity gone under last week, I would have no interest in the remains of the British game.

I got into RL following Wigan as a teenager in the early/mid 80’s and fell in love with the game and played it for over a decade as well as being a Wigan season ticket holder

I am now an exiled Wigan fan and I am far more passionate about the game of RL than Wigan RLFC itself... obviously I like to see Wigan doing well but I would put the success of the sport as my primary concern

I would rather see Leeds struggle because everyone else was now getting 40k and our current 15k cant compete, than as we are now, where we are one of the clubs dominating because other clubs cant compete with our 15k crowds.

I would put my club first above all but i wouldnt be too dissapointed if Widnes had Crowds of 10k and were struggling to compete with Wire/Wigan/Leeds/London/Crusaders/Bradford etc because they were all getting 40k crowds each week and we just couldnt compete.

I would be far less happy watching Widnes in The championship while clubs post Shocking crowds and show no real progression as a club.

Would you be happy for the RFL to expel your club from SL to fastrack a club From Glasgow into SL for the good of the game. Regardless of your Support, Structures, And facilities. And regardless of theirs?

SL is, unfortunately, the only nationally recognised RL division. People in Glasgow have no idea what the championships are or who the teams in it are. We arent going to sell RL to scotland, long term, through the lower leagues.

So they will always need to admit expansions clubs before they are better than heartland clubs. Its simple pragmatism.

If Leeds were the 'worst' of the teams in SL, and we needed to drop them to bring in a club from a new area that had the backing and the potential to exceed where we could be, then whilst i wouldnt be happy with it. I would understand that what it is what is best for the sport and what would need to happen.

If disaster were to happen, and Leeds were to go, whilst i would be sad, i would get over it. I would still enjoy watching 13 blokes belting 7 shades out of each other to try and put an rubber inflatable egg over a line. Just because id have to watch 13 guys in different coloured shirts with a different name try and put that rubber inflatable egg over a line in a different stadium doesnt mean i would no longer enjoy it.

What I find interesting for me is that I will say yes on this quite easily. However, that is likely because I now live in the states and haven't been able to go to a game for over three years. I still love the team, but I also feel I am more a fan of the sport as a whole now.

However, in terms of what is good for the game, I would need to see a long term strategy in place in order for me to be happy about that. If it was just a back of a cig packet idea then definitely no.

I would also be perfectly happy for Quins, Crusaders and Catalans to get double funding (to be spent strategically on growing the game and club, not just in players pockets) for the next 10 years since I feel they are important areas. But Equally, I want to see something done for the lower leagues since I feel this area has been neglected.

That wouldn't be good for the game, would it? If a strong club was undeservingly kicked out for a much weaker club, that would be a very bad thing and I don't think anyone would support it.

Club over Game for me i'm afraid to say. Don't get me wrong I love the game but if Leigh were to fold then I think my interest in the sport would fade slowly over time.

Todays game live at Leigh has made my weekend with a fantastic performance. Been looking forward to it all week and will put me in a good mood for days.

Whereas Hull v Leeds on sky made an enjoyable 80 minutes before I went out.

The thread simply asked if fans would be prepared to accept a detriment to their club in favour of a benefit to the game as a whole. I imagine all those who said they would, would. Whether or not they'd take that to the Nth degree like you have suggested is another thing, but I've already shown how silly such fantasy scenarios are in making an argument. Then again, why you've gone on this multi-thread crusade about it is puzzling enough. I still don't understand why you didn't just accept at face value what other posters have stated as their own opinion.
