I think the point was that the try you are on about is the same one that Eddiewaringsflatcap mentioned. It was John Harrison who headed it for George Mann to score.

I saw that match. I'm disappointed to hear I must've missed this back flip pass. It sounds spectacular and particularly acrobatic.

| I remember Phil Ford scoring a solo try from receiving a kick off on his own line. It was in the Premiership versus Leeds in 1988. He beat 4 defenders and even waved bye bye at the Leeds fullback before diving over. It was the best solo try I've seen at Odsal. The Yorkshire Post headline in the sports section on the Monday was "Ford Scores Wonder Try".

Gutted! I've been telling people about that try for years but always thought it was Paul Forber who'd headed it over and I've always tried to tried to grab some reflected glory from it -in a " how cool is that and he played for salford too you know" kind of a way.
Must have been the headband that my memory has attached to the wrong head

Buffer never really used his head in that way. Or any other way, really.

| What about one team scoring, the opposition kick off, recover the ball and score directly from the kick off?
When Widnes played Whitehaven in the 2009 play-off's, the score wass 20-20 but Haven scored a drop goal with about 2 or 3 mins left. Widnes kicked off, recovered the kick and broke away to score.

Penalty
When the All Blacks played Italy a while back the last 10 minutes trying to set 1 scrum with the Italian pack being dominant on the AB's line and the referee terrified to award a penalty try (which would have been the correct decision)
85,000 italian fans made the most noise I have ever heard at a union match

Huddersfield did this about 3 or 4 times in 1 game !!
albeit in the 142-4 world record thrashing of Blackpool in 1994 - there was one where they kicked off straight into the arms of Phil Helliwell who just ran straight back through the entire Blackpool team and touched down under the sticks!!!

I remember that. Hull were something like 20 points down at Headingly, there was no realistic prospect of a come-back, but it resulted in a right fuss about sportsmanship.
Also remember a game where a penalty was awarded near the touchline. The kicker opted to 'go for goal', at which point the defending team would go and stand behind the sticks. Said kicker then purposely kicked cross-field to his winger on the other side, who touched down. From memory the try stood.

It was Sinfield who took the kick.
If I remember rightly, a clearly bewildered Richard Silverwood handed it to the video referee who had to judge whether Sinfield has made a "genuine attempt" to kick the goal. Given that he was looking towards the corner flag, it was obvious that he wasn't and the try was chalked off.
To be honest, the look on Silverwood's face was a picture.

| Sean Long had a few. My favourite, though not a true 'wow' moment was once when the clock was counting down with Saints marginally ahead against Warrington. Rather than running, passing or kicking the ball with the risk that Wire would get hold of it and score after the hooter, Sean just ran the ball all the way backwards over the dead ball line. Talk about doing what no one else thinks of.....
