Well it's not like they force Crusaders to have a certain amount of Welsh players!!
It would benefit the RFL as there would still be some Welsh connection in SL. It appears that Crusaders may be about to go belly-up, and if they don't that another club will have a strong legal challenge if they are omitted and Crusaders are given a franchise. Given the situation, a merger with Widnes may therefore be acceptable to Crusaders, Widnes and the RFL.

Yes but that's nothing to do with it , all it required was a club , any club to achieve in one season a NRC win/GF apearance get 2,500 through the gates by hook or by crook and by constructive accounting push 1 million through the bank account and they could apply , if there was no other applicant then the RFL would have been obliged to dump somebody to put them in

The RFL are really good at making rules , bad rules , unworkable rules , rules that can be circumvented by a 10 yr old , ill conceived rules that they dont seem able to see why they wont work in practical terms , much like the bank adverts from a few years back

Reality check. If Widnes did 'merge' with the Crusaders, then they'd have to accept responsibilty for all the Crusaders' accumulated debt. I don't really see a businessman as astute as Steve O'Connor doing that, do you?

Nothing in the Rugby League press. In fact very little on the Crusaders (have they been told to tone down coverage?). Still wondering how they can be signing players though just prior to going into adminstration which has been planned for a while.
