Ive watched it a few times since and from that angle his head looks too high for the jaw. The main impact was the shoulder as you can see that plow into the bottom of his face. As I said though, accidental but like you said, reckless.

Only read the first post. Just want to say can't disagree more. It's part of the spectacle. Barely anyone gets injured from it. They banned it in Union. Three great reasons to keep it.

A lot of the collisions have already been coached out of the game in favour of lower impact techniques, presumably to reduce the number of missed tackles and to lessen the chances of injury. I'd have had no problem banning the shoulder charge in the past but it would be a serious loss now IMO.

The #14 had passed the ball, he didn't even see Hoppa coming. I don't even know what to class it as, it was shocking.

Simply put, NO, everyone loves a big shoulder to shoulder hit, sparks the team and crowd up and can change a game, lets not turn our game into Union and stop anyone putting a bit hit in. It may be dangerous, but the majority of our sport is, its part and parcel of the game!

these are the same idiots that spend $1 million dollars a year on a good RL winger or centre, then only give him the ball once or twice a game.

Morley on Hansen is a good example. Shoulder dipped into the head. Point of impact is his head.

Everyone praises it as a fantastic hit. I think differently, deliberatley targeting the head should be treated the same as a stiff arm or elbow.
