I never said it was a prerequisite of a RL player to have a TV personality. But if you're going to be on TV as a guest (or invited to be on TV as some kind of pundit) you expect a bit of enthusiasm. The guy is supposed to give an impression of the sport. As a professional sportsman (and a captain and an international at that) he is going to deal with people and the media a lot.

He needs some media training if he's going to be in the media.

It's pretty insulting that they try and pass something off as so obvious despite the fact they've shortened the clip down to cut out minutes of reviewing and on top of that they already know the result. Despite this, they've still managed to mess up in the past! I remember seeing the BBC give Stanley Gene a try last year after the video replay even though it got disallowed! It's just lazy.

Yet again Leeds win a game they have to and as always they will peak at the correct time Leeds are the masters of that.

Who really cares? Hes a rugby player first and foremost. Plus, when it matters, ie when being interviewed after winning the grand final he always comes across as a smashing bloke with lots of interesting things to say.

What's strange is that even in victory Rovers fans seem to find more things to moan about than celebrate - if it's not Leeds being the only team in the league to ever throw a forward pass it's Sinfield buying his defence some time by clarifying a decision or the quality of the BBC coverage of the game.

I know life is miserable in East Hull, so I'd have expected you to grab these little rays of sunlight and hold onto them as long as you can.

Can I just say I'm quite disappointed with people's choice of response to this thread. Leeds fans seem to take it as a chance to be totally defensive about one of their players and get up high on their pedestals. This isn't about Leeds. This is about a player giving off a very poor image in the media. I know some rugby players aren't personalities, etc. That's fair enough. But some are, and some come across very well in the media. These are the people that we should be getting on the TV. I've seen Sinfield interviewed in the past, and he usually isn't too bad, but Sunday it just seemed like he didn't want to be there. It was really disappointing, and I felt a bit sorry for Harry who just couldn't seem to get a decent response from him.

There have been plenty of players over the course of the SL Show that have been incapable of stringing a sentence together, yet only one has been singled out for criticism on this thread. Why is that?

If you didn't want it to turn into a discussion about one particular player, why make it one?

This is about one particular person. The only reason it is about one particular person is because he is the one I happened to be watching at the time. I don't watch the SLS every week, but I did this week and Sinfield was awful. I have much respect for Sinfield as a player. But on the TV he was awful. If one of SL's star players is going to be on TV a lot then he maybe should be trained in this department. Being a rugby player isn't an excuse to be crap on TV.

Same. I've just watched it now and he was much much better. Seemed interested, contributed well to discussion and was very analytical. I dunno what made the difference. Was it because he was the solo guest this time? Or was it because Leeds won this week?

I made a comment about his media skills on one particular day. They were shocking. Most people are agreeing. Those that aren't agreeing are defending him as a player (which isn't exactly disagreeing) and it is totally against the point I'm making.

I have not made one negative comment on this thread about his playing skills because I respect him as a player (in fact, I have said that in this thread). Why you feel the need to bring Agar into this I haven't a clue?

Why can't people actually discuss the point being made on this forum?
