| Video ref to be limited to one slo mo from each angle and susbsequently one freeze frame from chosen angle. If he can't decide from that then try or ideally ref call. I don't understand how a video ref can watch the same replay umpteen times and have no doubt.
Double movements to be assessed in real time.

The new 'dragging' to touch rule. I think this is a crap rule and basically, if a player takes the risk of running down the touchline or near the touchline, then they should be able to be bundled into touch, be it a drag or push.
'"
Quote ="Leaguefan"Kick the ball dead and its a turnover to the opposition where it was kicked from.

I'd also get rid of ball stripping one on one, i think it complicates decisions for the referee and leads to confusion.

I'm not sure about your first point, but I whole heartidly agree with you concerning the playoffs,8 is 2 too many for me.

| Quote ="tb"But that's exactly the way the VR works in RL - not just the "TMO" in RU: the assumption is always a try has been scored unless there's clear evidence that it hasn't (ie a reason not to give it) rather than "is there any reason I should award a try" (with the inevitable corollary that the presumption is 'no try' unless you there is firm evidence of one being scored - ie, defender in the way, can't see the grounding? No try, even though you don't have evidence that it[i wasn't[/i grounded). And it's the right way to do it - as you say later in your post. You seem to be arguing to change it to the way it is, because you misunderstand the way it actually is - imo of course.'"
No that's not what I meant all. Maybe a bad example. In RU the assumption is that a try has NOT been scored. It has to be proved that it was all ok. The reason I quoted that sentence was to show that even though the ref could find no reason to disallow the try he still wanted the 'TMO' to have a look. In essence what they are trying to do is find a reason not to give tries (something becoming more evident in the NRL, I'm afraid to say). RL has it right that the ref only refers when there is a specific area(s) of play to look at that might indicate a legitimate try was not scored - rather than just handing it over willy-nilly. As I said before the key thing is that the player got over the line with the ball, from this point on the benefit of the doubt goes to the attacking side. Sorry if the RU example confused that point. I find that RU is particularly adept at making the simple things overcomplex!

| The scrums are a joke and are mainly used for the players to get a breather.
Let the referee place the ball on the ground, the scrum then forms over the ball but the hookers are not allowed to touch or strike for it until the referee blows his whistle.
Thus we would have contested scrums again and add some element of skill for the hookers and some more unexpected outcomes for the spectators. Ican see no problem with this proposal and it would add the uncertainty factor that would make it fascinating. The scrum halves would retire behind the scrum waiting for the ball to appear.

| I'd like to see the exit of the ball from the scrum delayed a second or two to give the non-feeding team more of an opportunity chance to fully contest if they wish. An idea I had was to require the ball to exit the scrum either at the base of the scrum (by the loose forward picking it up or the SH getting it from the LF's feet) or on the opposite side from where the ball was put in. The feeding team would be allowed to choose which side to feed from in return.
I don't know if this would work in practive without making the scrum a disaster area like those in another code but it might encourage both teams to bind properly rather than preparing to run back to their defensive or attacking positions.

Yes, though I seem to remember reading about an amusing IRLB decision to make an official amendment to the unofficial policy of ignoring that rule in the early 90s!
My idea is for an tweak/evolution of the existing 'settlement' rather than rolling back to feeding the tunnel.

| i used to think the same regards competitive scrums but now i don't care, it's just a good way of removing the forwards for one play and giving the ball to the team that deserves it.
Leave it alone (in terms of non competitive)

| I'd like the kickable penalty withdrawn for putting the ball straight into touch from the kick off. To harsh imo. Tap on the halfway line is enough.

| The one that got me and maybe not a rule as such was Hull KR vs Leeds on friday. Leeds 18-0 down with about 50 minutes gone are having to drop out again from under their own posts. Sinfield messes about abit and then Alibert stops the clock. Why is he stopping the clock when Leeds are the ones 18-0 down? Surely they can waste as much time as they want when they are 18-0 down

| 1) You only get a conversation attempt if you score a try where the ball has NOT been kicked by the attacking/scoring team in the build up ie, since the last play the ball.
2) If the ball is dropped by the attacking team, then it is an automatic knock-on regardless of whether it goes backwards or forwards.
3) Bring back ball stripping - it's the attackers responsibility to securely hold possession and if the ball is clearly stripped then it's play on and the player picking the ball up gets "six to go".

Number 3 would remove offloading plays. It would simply stop players promoting the ball and slow the game down and take away a good part of the game.

| The forming of the scrum with any players around, in order for the ref to call time off and usually in the dying minutes of the game.
Either : Get the players to request time off to the official and then contest the scrum with those players present, regardless of their field position.
Or : Continue to run the clock down until the players you want to form the scrum / regular pack are present.
It seems unfair that the ref calls time off, only for the pack's make up to radically change using the benefit of players that have strolled back whilst the clock has stopped.
This shouldn't have a massive impact on the game, as most teams at various points in the game, seem to play a back as a 2nd row / loose forward ....

| 1) On the "dragging" rule - I think its a nonsense, imo the only think we need to watch out for is when players pick up the ball carrier and carry him towards touch.
2) When the attacker is held up over the line, that team should get the ball back with another 5 tackles, either by a scrum (as it used to be) or by drop out.
3) Someone mentioned the playoff system, the original 5 team set up was easily the best imo.

| Tries scored from a kick inside the opoosition 30m don't get a conversion attempt.
If you tackle a to$$er player off the ball (Billy Slater, James Graham, Sean O'Loughlin, Johnathan Thurston) -no penalty.
Interchanges same as NRL.
Scrums fed into 'tunnel', even if you feed to your own team.
Benefit of doubt goes to defending team, go back and score properly.
If players (normally Saints players) start crying and waving their arms about at the ref. Straight Red.
No changing of nationalities.

| Also, I'd be a fan of an (optional) restart from where the ball was kicked if it goes dead, to stop people aimlessly hoofing it down field.

| The ball stripping rules are impossible to apply fairly and consistently in their current form, IMO. Especially when a call has to be made in a second or two.
Take the scenario where an attacking player is moving toward your line, away from his own, and you are defending. You rip the ball from him, one-on-one, and the ball comes toward you and away from his line. If he then regathers it, half of the Refs ive seen in recent years have given a knock-on against the original ball carrier, and the other half 'play-on' and six more tackles to him. It's apparently impossible to call, and is it ever right to call it a knock-on anyway? After all he didnt drop it, it was pulled?
A much more simple, easy to call rule is necessary for this i reckon. Preferably one which doesnt discourage ball stealing, which is a skill in itself.
