Staging a European Championship like this, in mid-season, would not help build combinations for the October/November tests against Australia/NZ - 4 months away. It would also disrupt the Super League season, requiring players to either be withheld or to backup for their clubs, and for that reason, the clubs would rightly not sanction it.
I'd like to see it held later in the season, around September-October, held after a 2 game Roses series. IMO the whole season structure needing a rethink, as I suggested in my recent post in the thread [url=http://viewtopic.php?p=15156759#p15156759Workload for England test players must be reduced[/url (the link will take you to the particular post, and the thread from the beginning will give you the background into the reasons why).
