Players slow down the drop-out to gain recovery time. They don't usually give a fart about stopping the clock. Hence why I suggested a 1 min period... If someone is injured/feigns injury then get them moved off the field of play in time, otherwise, as I suggested, simply restart the game with a play the ball to the attack once the mess is cleared up.

I understand that it is there for a breather, which is against the attrition nature of the game (like it or not), but I don't really see a need for an arbitrary figure for the drop-out like 1 min. Just have it as a similar rule to throwing the ball away after a knock on, a penalty. From 10 in front of the posts probably?

Why not just pack down with the players that have formed the scrum to stop the clock.

Anyway what is the fascination in constantly speeding up the game, any game like ours needs periods where players catch their breath.

I think that if there is more than one in the tackle you shouldn't be able to drive the ball carrier back in goal for a drop out. If the guy can make it out that's good enough effort for me but allowing 2-3 guys to push him back takes the pi$$

I think if we want to compete in the International arena we have to speed up our game, to much time wasted in our game, often abused as well. I personally like a fast flowing game.

Speed up play the ball
No controlled 20m taps and quick penalty taps
Make one on one steal more lenient e.g. a missed tackle earlier doesn't count as 2 men in tackle.
Don't give penalties on 1st tackle for petty things just scrub the tackle count unless it is serious foul play

Now I went to the last final at Elland Road, we were quicker at every play the ball, we still got beat.

To be honest I'm wondering if the kick to touch is a bit harsh for things like offside, a tap seems adequate punishment for me, and have the kick/penalty attempt for more serious offences (spear/high tackles for example).

According to Ben Thaler, time cannot be stopped for a drop out until all of the team who is kicking the drop out is behind the line...

If this is the actual rule then that needs changing immediately...

It doesn't now. Or do you mean, a two-man tackle, where one of them falls off of lets go before the tackle is completed shouldn't count as a two-man tackle?

Id like to see any kick from your own half that goes dead result in the ball being handed over where it was kicked, there is no skill involved in players deliberately kicking the ball dead with the aim of conceding a 20m restart and the ball in the air nonsense should be stopped if a kick to touch is over the line by metres and somebody leaps from the field of play over the touchline and bats it back in it should be classed as being out
