As a matter of interest, what did Terry Lamb do to Hanley? If all you are referring to is out play him [size=200IN ONE GAME[/size thats hardly enough to say his is an ordinary player. Hanley was the star player of a Wigan side which dominated for 7 years. During which time the then aussie GF winner, Manley were beaten in the first World club challenge.
Your arguement is inherently flawed. Afterall, Andrew John got completely outshone by Hull FC's halves in the play off game when Johns played for Warrington. Does that mean he is ordinary too?

| Thank goodness........having just found myself in agreement with McKenzie in another thread, it's reassuring to read his posts here, and see him return to his default position of being a ****.
Hanley is the best British player of the last 40 years...........and in the top 10, maybe even the top 5, world players of the last 40 years.

After Hull had wiped the floor with an Andrew Johns led Warrington at HJ in the play offs of 2005 by 40-6, Johns was quoted as saying "Paul Cooke was the most difficult opposition half I have encountered, I didn't know what he was going to do next".
Now, I donlt want to be seen to give Paul Cooke any credit, but those words came from johns himself.
Is Cooke better than Johns? No, but he was for one game

He laid him out with a late challenge because he knew it was the only way to stop him. Ergo Terry Newton is much more talented than any of the average players he took out in a cowardly manner.

| Just a few clarifications to the above thread.
Terry Lamb didn't outplay Hanley. He took him out. That's not the same. Hanley was great in both England and Aus. Don't think that is in question by anyone who saw him play. Whether you think that there are some around who were better is opinion, but he was great nevertheless.
As for Kevin Ward. He was massive and skillful and tough as they come......and a thoroughly nice guy. He's a family friend and it was always funny seeing my little nephew wrestling with him. Kevin used to let him punch him charge at him and he just game this big deep belly laugh back. (I get the impression it would have been the same if I'd done it too but I didn't try!)
Never saw him do anything illegal on the field never mind through a punch but you didn't mess with him either.
and at the time when the English didn't really rule in Sydney, he had the respect of the Aussie players and fans.

Do you even know who Andy Farrell was? I mean, you never saw Hanley play so i can understand your stupidity in that regard. I'm guessing it's the same strory with Farrell. Do you know who Darren Lockyer is? They might have a picture of him up in Walkabout. Next time your shovelling down the vegemite have a look at the walls - see if you can spot any RL players.

He came to saints at the back end of his playing days but was awesome. He even went on to play for GB again. Shame he went out the way he did.

Far from it.
There are some true legends on there.
But to even have names like Hanly and Farrell mentioned on the same THREAD as glorious names such as Fittler, Johns, Jones, Inglis and Meninga is a true travesty, let alone on the same post.
I guess the golden boot awards are sometimes given out to the wrong people.
Barry McKenzie likens this to when the worst kid at school got an award.....just to 'encourage' him or her....sort of saying 'We know you arent very good, You know you arent very good, the whole school knows you arent very good... but thanks for coming'

For the fastest ever try scored by a player from De La Salle Caringbah Junior Rugby League Football Club yes.
15 seconds after kick off and Barry McKenzie was going over in the corner for 4.
Record still stands.

There's a rather unpleasant word for people who talk about themselves in the 3rd person, but Sexual Deviant isn't going to use it!
Quite simply, your one-eyed Ocker viewpoint is absolute testicles. Just garner opinion from players who played against Hanley, British and Australian. They'll put you right.

Just got this email back from my old mate Terry 'Baa Baa' Lamb
Think this confirms it.
[iFrom:baabaalamb102@ozemail.com

Bazza!! You old Ba stard!
Good to hear off you again. In answer to your question I can confirm Ellery Hanly was indeed one of the most over rated players I have ever played against.
Onya mate, we will catch up for a few cold ones next time you are back home.
Keep owning those clowns over in the UK
Yours in sport, and god bless Australia

Im obviously biased as a Cas fan but agree Wardy was awesome
People sometimes forget he was a great offloader with the ball too, the run-a-round play with Andy Gregory for G.B,
and the lead up to Marchant's try at Wembley in 1986 spring to mind
No cheap shots to prove how hard and tough he was...he didnt need to
Many a good judge in Oz thought he was robbed of the clive churchill medal in the 1987 grand final too
