Got to be Kear. He has proven ability to get players up for backs to the wall situations. 2 Cup wins with very unfancied teams and has saved Trinity form oblivion single handedly.
Edwards? Way too long out of the game i'm afraid, things have moved on since he departed for kick n clap.

| Tony Smith has confirmed on Radio 5 Live that he is standing down. Do we have a British coach who is capable?? Will it be an Aussie or Kiwi?

| I don't think we do have a British coach good enough which is the worry. We need to approach a big name Aussie/Kiwi but i'm not sure how many would want the job.

| There are not many Brits, but it should not be an Aussie, Kiwi.
Would add, try not to have a club coach.

I'd agree and Kear would be my choice. He can get his teams up for big games and bring the best out of otherwise fairly average players.
That being said, you could literally pick the best coaching team in the world and put them in charge of the England side and we'd still win bugger all. We need better players, not a better coach.

You are right he would be great, but there's more chance of you and me doing the job than him at the moment.
Of the English coaches available Kear is about the only option, but I have a terrible fear that McNamara is the man in waiting...

Tell me how? A popular misconception. There is no miracle training scenario, there is no wonder coaching style, there is no difference at the elite level.
Go and ask someone like Morley. His main thing after a year or so of being here was that he couldn't believe how the players looked after what they ate a lot more on Oz.
THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE!!!
It's the amount of talent at one's disposal as a coach, trainer, conditioner compared to that of the UK.

As for the next coach I'd go with Justin Morgan.

| I think I might apply!!!
For one thing I can't do any worse and until the entire RL system in this country is revamped top to bottom with specific aims targets and ACHIEVABLE goals then all the game can look forward to in the future is the odd test match win here and there.
There is one good reason however why I may not apply..........
I coudn't put up with all the stick all the the other armchair coaches would give me

| Does the job need an existing full time coach? Apart from a meaningless mid-season game what does the England coach do between March and October?
Maybe the job requires somebody involved a coaching set-up, but not a necessarily the head coach.
Kris Radlinski has been obvious by his presence the last couple of weeks.
