| Currently, Michael Ennis is the master. You've also got guys like Paul Gallen and Justin Hodges who are blatant and couldn't hide it if their lives depended on it. And then there is Cameron Smith, who is incognito, where no one seems to notice, but he's up there with the best.

| Has to be the Hulmes during their time at Widnes. Having the likes of Sorensen, Tamati etc around gives you licence to be as annoying as you like in the knowledge one of them will always step in if someone picks you up for it.

| I know a tiny bit about this subject and there are many factors that makes a good niggler.
There is a difference between an unlikeable pr*ck, a loud mouthed idiot, and a really good niggler.
Garry Freeman, Brett Finch, Michael Ennis.....they are all nigglers of the highest quality.
Garry Freeman would have to be the best though.

| Not sure if it counts as niggle but Chris Smith of Saints/Cas fame must have won a bucket load of penalties for interference by taking exception by struggling and kicking out to every player that tackled him. How this player won a SL winners ring still amazes me to this day (yes, I know Ryan Bailey has 3).

| At first glance I thought this post from the name was by far and away the worst racism ever shown on these pages.
As it is I have noticed my mistake and not too fussed on replying.

| My lords, ladies and gentlemen, I give you The Glorious League Freak using himself as an example of self contradiction - he is all 3 .

In the case of Gary Freeman, he himself said that the 2 Hulmes did everything to him that could be done on a Rugby field.
(Suggestive comments awaited)!!

Andy Gregory, especially in his Widnes days, was the champion of this category. The Hulmes must just have been keen students.

Isn't it the Kris Smith who played in the Academy at Leeds, had a couple of knee reconstructions and then played a bit in the lower leagues before retiring early that is servicing Minogue the Lesser?

Indeed. Amuses me when he is labelled in the tabloids as a former 'Rugby League star'.

| I remember the Wigan Warrington games of the 90's... Paul Cullen and a fight were never too far apart. Some would say he was just a thug but he was a pretty good wind up merchant too

Have to agree with LF there, top call. The Hulmes were animals who never took a backward step, not nigglers. They would never show a hint of pain, unlike Freeman when Hampson nutted him v NZ at Elland Road.
