| Am I the only one who doesnt care if the people playing RL only do so when money is available, or the people playing it are usually RU players. As long as its been played I couldnt care less if it was played by Death Row convicts and the Man of the Match got a 1k bonus and was let go

I'm sure i saw the Rhinos play Lancs at Leigh in October.

Union players playing League is better than no one playing league. If it wasnt for Union players playing league here in the UK then the current expansion of the game at grassroots level would have been severely hindered or may not have taken off at all.
While the chances of league taking off to some extent in SA may be very limited, at least if some people playing the game whether they are Union players or not, it gives the game some sort of chance at least

Exactly. RL is a tough, contact sport, so developing it in new territory necessarily involves recruiting from the ranks of guys who've played other contact sports. RU and American football are the only other sports guys can realistically be recruited from, and in South Africa RU is the only one of these they have there.

Recruiting union players to what?
There is not RL competition there. None. So what are you recruiting these people too?
These union types, who use resources, money and time and effort that is supposed to be for Rugby League, they use it for a one off game and never think about Rugby League again.
You people are idiots.
Recruiting?

| The whole crux of your trollish argument seems to be that they are sponging money off RL so that RU players can have a holiday or whatever. But what money is there for an organisation like the SARL? FA I think you'll find. They'd have to fundraise far more every year just to play their domestic games than the RLIF will ever provide. Not to mention their trips overseas. The people putting in the time, money and effort in SA are the same people administering the game, including players, referees, coaches etc. It's not the RLIF or the RFL or ARL. They are just like ecery other grass roots RL on the planet. They do all the work and if they are lucky they might get a little bit of help from a higher authority, but you can be sure they won't be sitting back and watching the $$ roll in. It's no different to a club in country NSW or Qld or an amateur club in the north of England. The only difference is the players are mostly new to the game because it's an expansion area. Just like Victoria or Western Australia or Wales or Serbia or Jamaica. Most probably come from union but so what. They're playing RL in an RL competition run by the South African Rugby League, which is a member of the Rugby League International Federation.

In the tour to England in October last year, The South African Rhinos failed to gain a major sponsor so the players paid individually to travel to England.
There was no money at all from any rugby league organisation
Things are happening there
colin love, Geoff carr and Tas Baitieri are very interested in the SARL right now
The Rhinos are playing the Tuks bulls tonight in SA
Things change you know

Unfortunately, League is always gonna be in Union's shadow in South Africa, like it is in a way in the UK

| Oh no...I've seen the light brother.
I've just realized that Rugby League in South Africa is bursting at the seams its going so well.
I mean look at all of the news you hear out of the place like....well.....hmmm.....
Still, the fact that no one involved in South Africans amazing Rugby League competition has EVER posted on the worlds biggest Rugby League site...that's just a side note.

Maybe it would be better to look at tennis , golf and badminton clubs etc to play league in South Africa rather than targeting union players.
Where did all the league players come from over 100 years ago

| :i think there is a bunch of rah rahs in joburg who are being paid by the rugby union to keep rl out, if not these guys who ave become custodians of league out there could not be doing a better job for the union guys. man they are pathetic, i was reading when the rhinos came to tour last year that one of their players was 49 years old, not bad for a country where the average age expectancy is 46, i think all genuine leaguies should demand an enquiry into just what the hell is going on out there in the transvaal. what a farce no wonder league is battling to expand, if it can not organise the game to be shown out in south africa on tv or to get any media coverage, the last league story to hit the press out there was one about some guy in the nrl sticking his finger up another players rectum, about 2001 and the only story on league i have seen on tv out there is about a gay oz forward i think his name was roberts or robins something like that, about the same time, so come on if we want south africa in lets get rid of these clowns out there and let the cape town boys take control then we will see things happen and blimey what a catch it will be, imagine touring a pradise, getting a decent game of league, not having to constantly tell the opposition no line outs or mauls, and not thinking the KKK really does exist

| yes i think a big league game like origin or even the world club challenge. stage it in cape town if it is marketed well local radio etc i would say no problem it would draw a 20,000 plus crowd, we must concentrate on the cape now, far too much time has been wasted in the transvaal, cape town has never had a real chance,it has got by far the best players, and it is the place to be now in south africa, i bet none of the teams who have been touring south africa will ever want to go back to joburg again, unless they have some strange sympton like masachism, and lets be honest these rhino guys who come from up there are never going to get the hang of it not even in a thousand years, why dont the rhinos play that team in cape town i think they are the cape cobras?, did the rugby league world know that cape town has been deliberately ignored, by the irlb? and nobody knows why, i doubt if the irlb know, but i will say it again take rugby league to the cape and the game will boom it can not fail there, or are we worried about upsetting the rhinos, in their quest to get the world record score put against them
