but of course that points to the flaw in the calculations. not everyone who supports the packers comes from or lives in green bay, so calculating as a proportion of the population is moot.

We've already discounted that argument as it can also be applied to Cas.

In fact I don't think we're far off the equivalent of 10% of the Bridgend population being in the Brewery Field on a match day.

I know not all come from Bridgend but which club can claim to draw it's fan base solely from the town it plays in.

I dont think there is any doubt that Castleford are the best supported club on Earth. All the figures point to it......

Villa Park holds more people than the population of Aston. I think they win on that account when it comes to sport in general.

But the whole stat is pointless. As has already been mentioned, clubs' catchment areas are not exclusively the population of the name of their club. And on the flip side, an area might be too big to claim the full population as its catchment area. You cannot compare Castleford to Harlequins by saying "population of Cas vs London" as it is ridiculous. How big is London? Do you expect people to come from one side of London to the other?

It may just be a stat, but it is completely and utterly pointless for them two reasons.

Castleford is technically in the City of Wakefield now. Do we use that population?

Easy when you are a one team town. When there are 3 or 4 pro sports teams in the city then it is even more impressive to get good crowds. In this respect surely Hull with its avg of 40+ thousand sports fans must be up there?

Of course not everyone who goes to watch will not be from Manchester, just as not everyone who goes to watch Cas will be from within the towns boundaries. Maybe a more accurate reflection would be to guesstimate the total population of the towns around Castleford (Pontefract, Normanton, Knottingley) and then compare that as percentage.

I Believe that there is more people outside Cas follow Cas than the people who live in Cas around my end Batley and Dewsbury there are loads of Cas fans and other places you named in matter fact i think the suport in Cas is very fickle at the moment seam to go when were winning.
