| I like the idea that Murphy was throwing 30 meter bullets that would hit a flying into space as Andrew Johns used to.....and then no one else did it until Ricky Stuart over 20 years later.
I wish you Poms were half as good as you keep saying you are.

So what you want is Quarterback?
I take nothing away from Joey, great player but Murphy' s pace and character were IMO greater.
My dad played against Murph and in his opinion he was the best player there has ever been, never mind scrum half.
You lot from down under only started your dominance when Murphy's generation et al started to hang up their boots.
Greg was close, as was Sterlo and Langer.

Redchemic's dad said Murphy was a good player......so this debate is over!
Johns is the best halfback ever, and no pom would make the top ten in that list.
You go tell your daddy that.

| Presumably no Australian before about 1970 in any Top 10 for any position either then, given GB's general dominance of the game before then?

That'd be the Alex Murphy who played for GB in two winning series' down under, then? 16 tries in 27 tests. Over 1000 career points (in the age od the 3 point try). 4 Cup final wins with 3 different clubs. Norths offered a £8000 for him in 1967. The Ozzie press, during his career, recognised him as one the greatest players ever to play the game. Murph would start in an all-time XIII. No contest, from anyone, anywhere, ever.
(BTW I wish we were as good as we'd like to think we are, too!)

League Freak wouldn't know any of that, neither would he aknowledge it even if Wally Lewis, Andrew Johns and Dally Messenger said it was true.

| TBH, I wish I'd seen Tommy Bishop play also. Any player who could keep arguably the greatest scrum half of all time out of his favoured position must be worth a look.

I'll tell him that and I'll also tell him what he already probably knows as well (and he has never seen this board) and that is that you are a typical loud mouthed, one eyed Aussie who can't give credit where it's due.
I don't recall Murph ever taking drugs "cos I can't cope with the pressure " like Johns did.
My source is somebody who played the game with and against some of the players who continually wiped the floor with your lot.
Open your other eye once in a while mate .

| Johns whinge, johns whinge, johns can't take the pressure, johns popping E's. Yeh great player!
One of the most talented half backs I've ever seen but he was on drugs to help his performance. Sad as he could have been a great but ended up being remembered for popping x.

| There is no need to be upset because the players you lot hold up as legends wouldnt have even cracked it for first grade over here.
Its ok, it takes all sorts to make up this world, some of them are great footy players, others are from England.
Its ok that you are crap.

You think Greg Bird is a legend.

You can tell this Ozzie gobe is quite young.
The older oz fans will tell you, they were 'also rans' all the 20th Century till 1982 really. That's almost 80 years.
Murphy was better than any Australian scrum half ever !
I bet this feller has never heard of men like Jim Sullivan ?

Murphy is best scrum half to ever play the game and nobody will ever better him!!!
Johns was best drug addict scrum half.
You Aussies have a serious drink, drug and women beating problems. We should ban all you convicts from playing super league.
Thank god the kiwis are best team in the world because I hate Aussies.

| Murphy was good!
But don't forget one of THE devastating half back pairings
Hepworth and Hardisty. Individually good, as a pair dynamite, which is why Millward had to move to HKR as he couldn't get a look in.

go back to sleep, AJM was and still is the greatest rugby league player of all time, he invented the creative scrum half role and would still be a massive star in todays game.

ask some of the older aussie league fans about players such as murphy, karalius, huddart, turner, etc etc etc......................they'll definitely give you a different perspective on rugby league.

And lets not forget that, that partnership was formed because Derek Edwards was brilliant at Full Back.
