| Quote ="Memony"The thing is, he isn't even that these days, either the rest of SL has got a whole lot bigger, which it hasn't. Fielden needs to put on a couple of stone of muscle mass, he used to be quite an imposing figure, now he just looks like a tall athletic bloke, not a prop.
It's a shame, he was a great player and I still think he has the capacity to be just that... needs a lot of graft to get there though imho.'"
maybe hes just not interested.
im sure with one off season in the nrl hed be back better than before.
when the bulls played wests tigers, their forwards s**t themselves. they said he belted them.
id like to see him join ellis at the tigers. they need some size in their pack. plus ellis needs some mates there so someone can converse with him without subtitles.

Maybe... However to do rediscover any form I think he needs to rediscover the drive to get back to the top of the game, he wanted a change of scenary from the Bulls, I wonder if this drive was already waning at this point, a change of scenary hasn't worked.

There were actually several fights between the two, which always had plenty of punches exchanged.

| I started a thread about Fielden on Redvee lately.
It seems more than just getting hit by Mason, it seems that he has no confidence and doesn't believe in his own ability anymore.
He just doesn't run the ball in hard, doesn't really make yards and never looks like he is going to break a tackle.
It is a shame to see, he used to be an excellent prop.

| Lets not forget Radford handed him his in the charity boxing event. He has lost that hard man tag and he is a victim of playing too many minutes early in his career IMO.

He hit Smith about 3 or 4 times and made a right bloody mess of him, pretty sure he and Barry did trade punches a few times.

He's lost his aura, there seems to be little desire to be the best week in week out anymore.
He was the best. No one could touch him.
I've never known a player to go backwards so fast...

That is just laughable. Why does he always stop before the collision?? No wonder he is getting thrown around like a rag doll

| His commitment just doesn't seem to be there, you could see how he was frustrated with his mistakes against catalans but did nothing about it.
He played hard for 80 mins every week, even when injured, so his body may not be holding up too well but something still isn't right with him...
He's ruined his reputation as one of the greatest ever.
I feel for him, it's painful watching how the mighty have fallen.
He should read this thread if he needs some motivation and desire to get back to anything like his former self.

| His last genuinely good game was the WCC against Wests. Since then he's been a shadow of his former self and I can't think of any non-(potentially)libellous reasons why he has fallen so far so quickly.

He's been a bit up and down tbh, he's still a decent prop (ignoring his recent performances), as his stats suggest. Knowing how good he was, average is not a word that should be associated with Stuart Fielden.

Agreed.
Can't blame a punch from a huge bloke or the loss of his mum - many, many other players have come back from both of these without it ending his career.
His body is shot at, and he has burned out - Graham will do the same, and Saints will have similar business sense as Bradford had and farm him out to some sucker of a club.

I would agree but the only thing gonna shake him out of this rut is himself. He shows signs of doing so from time to time but sums up Wigan in the last few years - one step forward, two back.
I think any British RL fan would love to see Stu Fielden back to his best and thumping a few Aussies but in my opinion, he was probably at his best between 2001-2003, so we've just as much chance of gettin a decent 80 mins out of Brendan Hill or Andy Platt.

| To be perfectly honest, the guy was a pretty good prop during Bradford's decent days, but I think the club may well have burnt him out by him playing 80 minutes at such a young age, which is what I fear we may do again with Sam Burgess.
Quite controversially I'd add, I never thought he was the best in the world, I thought he got carried alot by the likes of Jamie Peacock. You only need to remember the Mason incident to see Fielden on his jacksy, and JP steam in and give it to Mason!

| Could a year out do it for him? I'm thinking he may choose retirement after his Wigan contracts up anyway.
Paul Rauhihi had a year out a few years back through injury at Wire and he cites that as the reason he's still able to do a job now at over 35 (might even be near 36). Fielden just looks too lightweight for me and his techniques wrong.
He's still not a BAD player, just a shadow of that prop I remember.
If he did a tendon for a year now i'm thinking it may be a blessing in disguise for him.

What happened? Did it degenerate into mindless drivel after I'd gone home and some of it got removed?

Look what they have done with Wilkes and Moore.

He had a go with Barrie Mc in 2003/04 time iirc
Cant believe how bad he has got since Mason floored him and his Mam died tho he was one of the best props in the world when at Bradford yet now hes not even in the top 10 best props in SL

| TBF even before he left Bradford he was on the downward spiral. His last good game for the Bulls was the 2006 WCC. But leading up to that game and the games after it until he joined Wigan his performances were nothing special
