| Richard Swain over Buderus for me.
Jason Smith was outstanding for 2 seasons then was injured for 2 seasons after knees up mrs Fielden got him.

Perhaps this selection is in fact a fair representation of the top clubs' performances over thirteen years of Super League?'"
Fairleigh played for Saints not Wigan, so its Saints 9, Wigan 8

But Terry O'Connor, Barrie McDermott and Offiah all played for Wigan too.
Granted McDermott only for a short spell. But surely the other two would be classed as Wigan players?
Or is it because Offiah and McDermott only played for Wigan pre-SL?? But O'Connor played for Wigan in the SL.

| In the light of the criticisms I have received on this thread, I have made some modifications to my selections, notably inserting Richard Swain and Darren Albert in place of Daniel Buderus and Scott Donald, and noting the correct club affiliations of David Fairleigh and Terence O'Connor.
Because Henry Paul was at his career peak in Super League, and Stacey Jones wasn't, I regard the performances of Henry Paul in Super League as superior to those of Stacey Jones. Overall in an evaluation of each person's life career, Stacey may well come in ahead of Henry.
Steve Renouf was not at his career peak in Super League, but still was better than his main rival for the position, Matt Gidley, in my opinion.
Now here is the revised teams:
IMPORTS:
Brent Webb (Leeds)
Leslie Vainikolo (Bradford)
Jamie Lyon (St Helens)
Steve Renouf (Wigan)
Darren Albert (St Helens)
Trent Barrett (Wigan)
Henry Paul (Wigan)
Jason Cayless (St Helens)
Richard Swain (Hull)
David Fairleigh (St Helens)
Jim Dymock (London)
David Furner (Wigan)
Jason Smith (Hull)
Bench:
Joe Vagana (Bradford)
Shaun Berrigan (Hull)
Ali Lauititi (Leeds)
Stacey Jones (Catalans)

BRITISH:
Kris Radlinski (Wigan)
Jason Robinson (Wigan)
Paul Newlove (St Helens)
Gary Connolly (Wigan)
Martin Offiah (London)
Danny McGuire (Leeds)
Sean Long (St Helens)
Stuart Fielden (Bradford)
Keiron Cunningham (St Helens)
James Graham (St Helens)
Andrew Farrell (Wigan)
Jamie Peacock (Bradford)
Paul Sculthorpe (St Helens)
Bench:
Barrie McDermott (Leeds)
Terry O'Connor (Wigan)
Adrian Morley (Leeds)
James Roby (St Helens)

I think that you would be in a minority on that choice -- even discounting Jimmy Lowes' propensity for a few "afters" every other week.

Interesting that 19 of the top players of SL played in Lancashire, 12 in Yorkshire, and 2 in London.
If we do this again in ten years I am sure that the number of London stars will have increased greatly, thanks to the development policy of the RFL in the south of England. As will the number of French stars, thanks to the inevitable growth of French junior development under the auspices of Les Catalans and Toulouse Super League clubs.

Jason Smith was awesome when he played and carried a very average Hull side so much, I would say yes, Overall Vowles probabally had a bigger impact the Jason Smith did, but if its based on talent and ability alone id go with Smith.

| Shaun was a great player prior to Super League, when he was with the only professional club, Wigan.
His Super League days, when he played for the London Broncos and Bradford, were not his best days, and he never shone then the way that Danny McGuire did in recent years.

| Interesting, all this.
For most of the SL years, supporters of other clubs played hell about the number of overseas players in Bradford colours. And that over the period when Bradford and Saints were the two pre-eminent teams in the competition.
So where are all the Bradford players in the list then?
How come Bulls did so well for so many years?

The stars could still shine for the London Broncos. Not only Offiah and Dymock. If you were lucky enough to watch Richard Barnett play for the Broncos in 2001-2002, as I was, you will have been blessed to see a real champion in action. He was past his prime (in terms of speed) but he retained a brilliant sidestep and swerve, which enabled him to score and set up many tries for the Broncos, even against the likes of St Helens.
