There aren't many ways to legally circumvent the salary cap, not without lying to the RFL which is a dangerous business as Melbourne found out. Many of the "loopholes" like image rights and EBT's were done with the full knowledge of the RFL as they were more tax loopholes rather than salary cap avoidances. In recent years those loopholes have been tightened by HMRC, something which has contributed to (along with the NRL salary cap rise and exchange rate) making it much more difficult to sign quality Aussies.

I'm surprised nobody else has picked up on this. I think the clubs involved are Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and Huddersfield. The details are sketchy (in fact, virtually non-existent) but it appears that if fans buy their season tickets early enough, they get entered into a draw where the prize is to name one of Marwan's horses, get taken to the races for its first race and to keep any money it wins that day.

People are whinging because he came charging into the sport running his mouth off. He's pretty brash and likes to play to it "My name is Marwan Koukash"!

It's nothing to do with Salford as a club. Not for me personally anyway. When Salford have been in financial troubles I've only wanted to see them come out the other side. I'm glad they've got some cash in their pocket and I hope that a few more money men will arrive in the sport to take a shot at glory. My only reservation would be that if he doesn't get the success he craves that he will be off and potentially Salford will be in an even worse position than when he arrived, with the same income but much higher outgoings.

As for this idea that no one questions other teams re. the cap. Wigan have been questioned every year since they bought their way out of relegation. The vitriol meted out on Koukash and his band of merry Red Devils is nothing compared to what was dished out following Stuart Fielden's purchase.

No, i'm suggesting they're whinging because he bought Salford and not their club. The game needs characters - enough have already left the game. Personally, what he says doesn't concern me...

They're putting together a decent squad, have a decent ground and a large population around them. All that is now missing is engaging with the old fans and bringing in new ones to get up to 10k crowds.

If you believed Huddersfield would finish top this yer you were deluded to right? Because I've had a look through the prediction tables an not one person has Hudds top by the end of the league rounds.

It depends who else we sign for this year and the. Who we bring in for the year after, nothing's impossible in sport with money and drive behind a club.

Huddersfield have been finishing at the top end of the table since 2009 though, I've no doubt if Koukash has his way you will be up there but not within 2 years. You could make the top 4 in the next couple of years but I don't think you'll finish top.

Even Man City with all their millions and no restriction on wages took longer than 2 years. Probably too ambitious but there's nothing wrong with ambition. It may put too much pressure on his coach and players though. When you look at the players signed an their ages I'd expect Salford to struggle to get a full strength side out on too many occasions in the next year or 2.
