Another rule I don't know then, this is proving quite educational. What does it have to be to constitute a penalty try then?

| Penalty try -
(d) the Referee may award a penalty try if, in his
opinion, a try would have been scored but for the
unfair play of the defending team. A penalty try is
awarded between the goal posts irrespective of
where the offence occurred.

You probably could, if you wanted to take the trouble, figure out exactly how far away BJB was from the ball, how far Ah Van was from the ball, their current velocities, their potential velocities, and work out the probability of BJB getting there first. (The answer is 100%, incidentally
) but of course there's a small possibility of him falling over his own feet before he gets there, or knocking on in panic once there, but those hypotheticals (which have been denied by foul play) are no reasons to deny a penalty try.

| We're terrible. We've got maybe the 6th best squad on paper however we've looked the 3rd worst team this weekend (Salford and Catalans looked worse). Can only blame the coach for me.

| Only one comment regarding the clubs!!!
Who on earth decided that Leed's Blue and yellow kit clashed with the Bulls practically all white kit?
The ONLY colour clash would have been Salford and Crusaders and the Crusaders changed to a previous strip they have been known to play in.
Terrrible choice.

I still think Feb is too early for this. So soon after christmas and the cold, wet weather is not good for fans!
Magic weekend should stay but play it in the summer.

Still don't see the value of this weekend.
Wigan-Saints, Hull-Rovers and Leeds-Bradford would have done 60K on their own in a normal weekend, and I don't see how a neutral would have been excited by the sight of a quarter full stadium with no atmosphere.
it seems to me that we have 30k or so hardcore fans who want to attend this fixture, but the remaining fans aren't interested, and no amount of ticket promo's or venue changes are going to change that.
some good games this weekend though.

8171 more than last year, representing an increase of 15.7%. Very satisfactory in my (meaningless) opinion.

It's not all about the attendance of the millenium magic. It's about the fans who didn't go getting in bars watching the games. People not at the games getting friends involved over the weekend. You can't simply decide on whether it's a success or not by the attendance on the gate. the MM experience is far more then just that.

that's a good point, but I'm still not sure that the event is really building, after 5 years we're still at the 30K mark of supporters per day.
will also be interesting to see if it has any effect on the opening 'home' games of the season. For most clubs their first home game is their 2nd best crowd after their 'derby' game due to all the off-season hype.

It is when you put it like that. But what happens next year? IMO the increase is due to it being the first game of the season and nothing else. If they can add 15% next season as well I'd be impressed.

Has the rule been changed recently? I always thought the threshold was very high, expected to see wording such as "try would definitely have been scored".
If thats always been the rule I'm surprised that penalty tries are such a rarity.

The rul hasnt changed, the interpretation may change from week to week or season to season, a previous referee controller seems to be to blame for the overly strict interpretation, defending a bad call meant that the interpretation has stuck.
