Where has the money for this deal come from out of Sky's overall budget? What has made way for them to bid/acquire these rights?
More rugby is great for us but could this deal have eaten into their budgeted allocation for rugby league as a whole, meaning they have less to offer SL next time around?'"
It's possible that it is tied up in a broader package amongst other sports and events. I have never understood Sky they make some really bizarre decisions, a few years ago they bought the rights for India's tour of New Zealand in the Cricket but only broadcast one of the limited overs games, they were showing Premier League years of soccer AM repeats instead.
Similarly with this deal I would be amazed if they don't actually have the rights to all of the matches, I don't buy the idea that the NRL have held back 5 league matches a week to offer a cheaper package, but still include all the rep and finals matches.
I hope they will have the NRL full-time highlights show but I'm not holding my breath.

Is that an issue for you? Personally, I doubt whether there will be a week where I manage to watch all three NRL games on top of the SL games and Toronto.

I'm the same. I have PS, but normally end up deleting more games than I watch as I just don't have time to watch them all, so I have always just picked my games to watch and deleted the rest. I will miss the Footy Show though, I love that program. Sky, to be fair to them, have come up with a far better package than I expected them to do. In answer to the 'where has the money come from?' question raised by MK; maybe losing the cricket to BT has left money in the pot for it?

They only lost the ashes in Australia but get your point. Money could have came from lots of streams. I mean Floyd Mayweather vs Connor McGregor did crazy PPV numbers and made sky lots of money.
Sky recently lost ATP men's tennis to Amazon also.
Really wouldn't worry that sky getting the NRL means less money for super league.

They lost all cricket broadcast from Australia, which includes the Big Bash too. Not just the Ashes (although, with how we performed I'm glad it wasn't on SKY!). You're right, the Mayweather fix made crazy money and the tennis wouldn't have been a cheap deal either. Plenty of money in SKY's pot so Super League shouldn't be affected

I am pretty sure that SKY have always held the rights for NRL just that whilst they didn't have enough channels they sold it onto PS. I am pretty sure that was how Setanta did it.

No way sky would have sold up the rights to origin so I don't think that's true.

| I wonder what criteria will be used to choose the three NRL games that Sky shows. Channel Nine has three games (Thursday night, Friday night and Sunday afternoon). Will it be just those, or will Sky be free to choose from those and from the other Fox Sports exclusive games as well?
Pity that the NRL didn't do a deal that gave Sky three games per week, and the other five were sold to Premier Sports.

It seems to be that sky are not interested in showing games Thursday and Friday morning if you look at the current games scheduled to be on sky sports.
I still don't see this third game either so not really sure what's happening with that.
All I can see is the fox sports morning games @ the moment.

| The Friday night games tended to be the best games of the round over the past couple of years on PS. The live games on Saturday and Sunday less so. Pity if they aren't taking up one of the Friday evening games

I will stick to the sky sports games. £22 per month on top of sky bill is expensive.
Like the option to download matches though.

Well that would probably work out around £18 per month. Not £10.40 as some think.

| I've gotten used to watching all eight weekly NRL matches over the years but £125 to watch it on my pc no thanks, and the monthly pass £22 and weekly £13 are ridiculous. I'll just have to get used too a couple of games a week.
I can't see the take up being high when you combine the pricing structure and the fact Sky have live matches. I wouldn't be surprised to see these prices revised when they discover the lack of demand.

| Not sure why people are moaning?
£22 per month is a bit steep, but the annual pass is only 41p more than Premier was if you split it.
Quite happy with that.
Plus buy a chromecasf if you want to watch on the tv. Brilliant little device.

Because it's an online service, charging subscriptions that are above conventional methods. Your internet dictates if you see the games or not. Unlike the push of a button on your remote.

| Has anyone who paid for the watch NRL app last year had to renew it?
I haven’t had any emails, and was able to watch this mornings game fine, but it’s over 12 months since I paid, so wasn’t expecting to be able to.
