Good idea. Because quite frankly there isn't enough time between the play the ball and the pass to even make one guy do a dummy run without being tackled. Play the ball, pause the game, set up your runners, unpause then pick your pass.

| Im loving the ideas, thanks lads.
Quote ="Wellsy13"1. Every time they score, they always get the kick smack bang in the middle of the sticks regardless. Think this needs changing (even if only made random).
2. If a prop makes a break, chances are he'll always run through the scrum half and full back. Think if you could create some kind of tackling system, it would be much better. I'll give it a bit more thought and see if I can suggest a system that might work.
3. It's pretty difficult to gage where players are on the pitch (on breaks most importantly). Perhaps there should be some little markers on the edge of the screen to indicate where players are off-screen (something like a little coloured dot that gets bigger as the player gets closer to being on-screen).
4. Players often move and stay out of position. I've had wingers stay in the middle at times.
'"
Points 1 and 4 - i'm on it.
Point 2 - would love to hear ideas. At the moment, I'm thinking of adding a simple mechanism that means the runner loses pace (maybe half) when breaking a tackle. that makes them far less likely to break the next tackle, unless they gather steam again.
Point 3 - love it! Kinda like flight control markers.
Quote ="Chris Dalton"Maybe a pause screen where you can plan things ahead like the dummy running and the kicking. Press pause, set up your plan, unpause and watch it unfurl.'" Definitely food for thought. Might slow the game down a lot, but I def. see where you're coming from. Will think about how it can be applied.
Keep it up!

Point 2 would be an immediate improvement on the current system. Still think there may be a better way, but for now that simple change would improve it a lot.
Point 3 they did in a lot of the early sports games.
Point 5 would slow the game down, but it's optional to use at the end of the day. Players can play as now or play more tactically. Could even save moves to make it quicker perhaps? E.g save the running lines of a face ball, cut ball, wedge, drop off, etc. users could make their own as well.
And would be good if you could use Bluetooth to play your friends!

| There should be a 'big hit' button. Sometimes you line someone up for a smash and nothing happens when you could wham them. Then, maybe a scrap could develop.

Yep - that's what I meant.
Madden 11 had a system where if you press a clock button it slows down for about 5 seconds. It might slow gameplay down (well, obviously) but you wouldn't use it every play.

| i can only scores from distance and by running from dummy half. trying to pass the ball around is a nightmare
ive mastered kick offs but not kicks in general play
irritating that they convert every single try and when i go for conversions i cant even see the posts!
the first two aren't necessarily glitches in the game, just me being crap probably.
Please can you put Championship and C1 teams on there?

Hmm not a bad idea. Am trying to think of a way to overhaul the tackling system completely, maybe a tackle and/or big hit button would be good. Will think about how this might be applied. Biff idea is good Also, it gives a little bit of a risk/reward dynamic for being penalised.
Quote ="Ian 77 Redux"Madden 11 had a system where if you press a clock button it slows down for about 5 seconds. It might slow gameplay down (well, obviously) but you wouldn't use it every play.'" I was thinking maybe like the Rugby League series where it goes into slow motion whenever you are holding the kick button? But that wouldn't really help for path drawing or anything. Might do some trials in the future for this slow-mo button. See if it fits in with the animations etc. that i have.

For the conversions, a big tip is to look at the radar on the bottom left of the screen. If you can perfectly match the angle between the red dot and the posts on the radar, you will land your kicks 9 times out of 10.
More teams will be coming in the future once i redesign the way that jerseys are drawn on the screen. currently there are images for every frame of every team, and adding Championship, C1, QRL, NSWRL etc. teams will blow out the download size significantly. So its planned, but not in the immediate future.
As for points 1 and 2, practice makes perfect Considering adding a joystick and pass/kick buttons in future release, I think some people might prefer it this way. Personally, I find that once you master the touch controls the amount of control you get over kicking, passing, running etc is much better than traditional joystick and buttons, but i accept that it is a bit more of a learning curve.

| Hey, question for you guys, as I don't know a whole lot about this...
Could I please get a (honest) consensus about what rating to give to Widnes? I need an attacking % and a defensive %. overall rating is just an average of these. Please use my current team ratings as a guide. Also, what position does their main goal kicker play?
Basically, as a guideline, the ratings were given based on the 2010 season, with attacking and defensive % being reflective of this season's For-Against figures.
Also, i suppose (given the level of detail in the current player graphics), they would have a totally white strip?
Cheers.

| Hard to tell with them not playing. I assume that they will probably be about as good as Wakefield were last year for their first season back in SL. Kit would be white shirt black shorts most likely, based on this pic:

Not as good as Queensland but better than new south Wales. Graphically, white top black shorts is traditional.
An honest consensus, listen to Wellsy re. The playing strength. Looks like our kicker might be on the wing next season but I could be wrong, I've only just got up.

Why have you chosen the iPhone though? Are the commercials better on there or is it just easier to write for? Iphone only has 15% of the market now and Android is around double that.

| any chance that when you send a player in a particular direction he can just keep going? when you have to keep tapping the screen, it sometimes thinks you are double tapping for a dive. So several times when my player has been running in for a try he inexplicably goes down a yard short!
And not only does the computer never miss a kick at goal, it never concedes a penalty either. Or is the programme Australian and the referee Matt Ceccin?

| Is it just me being rubbish or are all kick offs/drop outs always caught on the full? Think you need to make it so that you can tackle a player into to touch and the idea of having a pass button would make it easier to play.

At the end of the day, I own an iPhone and iPad and wrote it for myself to play And it is lots of work to keep that app going and improve it, so at this stage I have no time to make an Android version as well, despite the fact that it has more market share. Market share isn't really everything. But point taken
Quote ="Richard_delariv"any chance that when you send a player in a particular direction he can just keep going? when you have to keep tapping the screen, it sometimes thinks you are double tapping for a dive. '"
At the moment, the player will run to wherever you touch (and you only have to touch once). so if you touch the 10m line, they will run to it (and a little bit over it). But I'm looking into adding a joystick and buttons, which means you can just hold the joystick down - that might make it easier.
As for the goals - yeah... lets just say computers are really good at maths. i'll fix that. Haven't gotten around to it yet. Sorry
Regarding penalties, that is a good point you make. Currently, if their players are offside, they will kind of just run away and not get involved, so you never get a penalty. But i will change it so that if they are in your way (or if you can run into them), you will get the penalty. there are a few other offside rules that need to tighten up too i think (like if you are in front of the kicker you need to leave 10m to the receiver - i think that sometimes they sneak inside the 10 and don't get caught...cheeky buggers).
Thanks for the tips!
Quote ="B.Rowlins"Is it just me being rubbish or are all kick offs/drop outs always caught on the full? Think you need to make it so that you can tackle a player into to touch and the idea of having a pass button would make it easier to play.'"
Kickoffs/dropouts are always caught on the full, if they are high enough. If you are receiving a kickoff, don't touch anything and the nearest player will automatically run to where it lands, so you too can partake in the catching-on-the-full. If the kickoff is low, or placed really well, then no, it won't get caught on the full (but a high kickoff that none catches is incredibly hard to do). Much like real rugby league in that respect (i guess 99 times out of 100 a high enough kickoff is caught on the full).
Joystick/pass button is currently being looked at. Just trying to get the implementation right. My personal pet peeve with other rugby/rugby league games is that if you want to pass back for a kick, most of the time you can't. it can only go to first receiver. Will see how i go with that, but yes it is coming.
Regarding tackling players into touch, I like the idea. Will add it to the list thanks for the ideas!

| Hi all,
Another question - Just did the rebranding of Harlequins to Broncos in the game, will be out in the big update due in early Jan. Twickenham is now called London, and i have gone for black jersey, black shorts and light blue socks (just to give them a flash of blue, whether the real team's socks are actually blue or not). Kept the rating the same as previous version based on harlequins' performance last season. Any Broncos fans want to weigh in on that before it goes live? (remember that currently in the game there are no designs on jerseys, so its solid colours for jersey, shorts and socks).
