I admired it, it was a cracking punch, no complaints from the opposition, it was a fair one on one punch, no cheap shot, red card and sending of sufficient.
If you do t like it go watch cricket or basketball a non contact sport, this is Rugby League.

| Looked to me like Tamou was going to straight left Garbutt for coming at him and grabbing him, but Garbutt was quicker to the punch.
Tamou cocked his left arm and still went through the action of throwing the punch but was in between those two moments already on the way down with lights going out so didn't properly connect
1. Tamou with left fist clenched and punch cocked
2. Tamou's straight left, momentarily after he's been hit, so a damp squib. But a straight left anyway. What else could it be?

Yeah & I would admire it too, if it had been a boxing match!
At no point was Tamou looking at Garbutt, he looked like he was waiting for a response from Galloway.

| '1 in, all in' - one of the un-written laws of the game....
If you get up and have a dig at anyone from the opposition (or a slap in this instance), you should know to expect his team mates flying in swinging from any angle - that's the way it has always been and the way it should always be.... Players should always look to defend each other - it's part of their role (particularly a props).
The only real exception is a king hit from behind.... Which Garbutts was a million miles from...
I dread to think where the game will end up if we let the easily outraged keep sanitising our game.
Let the big boys let off some steam and sort things out on the pitch for gods sake...

| Punches are not thrown in the NRL these days, since they introduced a much more robust on-field response; consequently, there's a fair bit of pushing and shoving, but very few meaningful shots fired. For that reason, Tamou gave Galloway a clip round the ear and probably expected a bit of a grapple - so in that sense, Garbutt's haymaker will have surprised him.
It wasn't particularly edifying, but it was a million miles from Ben Flower's vicious brain explosion, or Rangi Chase smashing Tangi Ropati's jaw with a deliberate elbow; if I was Garbutt's coach or a Leeds fan, I'd be more annoyed at the stupidity of the player - he'll get banned for several games, and that's the last thing they need right now.

| Tamou was never going to throw a punch. The NRL players have had it drilled into them for a couple of seasons now that a closed fist punch is an instant red card and many weeks sat on the sideline.
This is why, whenever there is a scuffle in an NRL game, they all stand about slapping each other like the three stooges instead.
This is also why Tamou stood up and slapped Galloway last night, instead of giving him a right hook - his self discipline took control.
Galloway, Garbutt and probably most of the Leeds side were no doubt frustrated at the way the second half had gone, which lead to the facial on the ground from Galloway and ultimately the punch from Garbutt.
I don't really care who was looking at who, or who had hold of someone's shirt. Garbutt is now facing a couple of games on the sidelines which won't help a Leeds side already struggling with injuries.

| Quote ="Bull Mania"My opinion on the punch was it was a cheap shot. I like a bit of biff and if Galloway decked him after his slap, then fair enough as they were standing toe to toe with each other.
Garbutt decks Tamou while he's not looking though (yes I'm sure someone can get a screenshot of a split second when Tamou is looking at Garbutt) but Tamou is looking at Galloway and it's a cheap shot IMHO

| What is difficult to grasp here is the "justification" for Garbutt's punch.
Tamou gave the Leeds player a tap, to show him that he wasn't happy with what had gone on in the tackle and
Garbutt decided to intervene, totally unnecessary and he'll cop a few games out for his effort, it was a decent shot though.
The over analysis by some posters is just plain ridiculous.
Galloway is more than capable of defending himself so, Garbutt shouldn't have and didn't need to get involved.

All because they were about to lose by the most points to the least convincing Aussie team of the series.

| As noted, NRL players have learned, a punch = a red, so just don't do it. Dumb, dumb, dumb. It was all Galloway's fault anyway. But Garbutt should have had more sense.
Still, good news for Leeds' next few opponents...

| Not really complaining about it - just saying he thinks the NRL have done the right thing with the no punching edict and that there are better ways to be 'tough' - which you can't disagree with....
Though personally I do hate the 'no punching' edict - I think it removes some of the theatre of the game, and actually often ruins the spectacle as players become frustrated - there's certainly more niggle and pointless fracas nowadays - in days gone by, it would be sorted with a dust up and the game would move on.... I do appreciate the risks associated with punches to the head - but feel those risks are more pertinent with King kits - otherwise boxing would be screwed as a sport.

| The frightening thing was how easy they made it look.
The effortless way which a simple pass would carve a gap open that was so huge reminded me of what you tend to see in the 70th/80th minute when a team is 30 points down, and they don't have any energy to make a decent defensive read. Except this was in the first ten minutes.
Just watch how easily the first NQC player waltzed through the Leeds defence - you don't see tries often like that scored in Super League where a player goes through untouched. We can't create gaps as efficiently or as well in this league.
Admittedly I thought Saints and Wigan were dominated up the middle, and the sheer strength of the forwards played a big part in those games, but it was more worrying how the skill level just isn't in the same ball park. Constantly undone just by the right pass, to the right man, in the right position. It was very strange to watch how relaxed and aware all those players looked, and each knew exactly what was the right option to take. After the poor Saints kick, look at how calmly the Roosters player handed the ball on to his team mate - just a complete knowledge and awareness of what to do in that situation.
I really hope all of the British game was watching with a pencil and paper, as embarrassing as it was for Super League, we really need to take note, learn, and aspire to be as good as that. Whatever it takes, the game over here needs re-evaluating.

The big difference is the number of options that they create when taking the ball to the line.
Over here, teams put a move on the opposition where a certain player is being set up to go through a gap, yet the Aussies seem to have 2 or 3 options, which of course makes defending so much more difficult.

| I agree, the options they have create holes, a let of their tries, not just WCS but in the NRL in general aren't reliant on braking a tackle or a piece of brilliance. Whilst I personally prefer to see someone like Watkins do something freakish, the Aussies can do that and rely on putting a backrower through a gap.

What a load of self righteous tosh, not that I condone that type of violence but it happens on a rugby pitch especially after your throw your fist (open or closed) to an oppositions jaw. Mitch was square infront of his face, you cant hit someone and then complain if you get hit back.
Then to go on a rant about how this sort of thing would ever happen in the NRL stinks of arrogance, the guy threw a hand at him Mitch saw it and in the heat of the moment gave a dig back.

If it had been the other way round with someone like Danny McGuire floored you'd all be creaming your knickers, or in the case of Wigan fans, be hoping his career was over.
Tamou thinks he's a hard man but just like Fielden, he's clearly not. He got what he deserved TBH.
They might not throw punches any more down under but there's more niggle in their game than ever. High shots, elbows, shoulders and lots of comedy slapping..
If you want to laugh even more at Tamou just take a look at 2015 State of Origin fights on that video site that everyone loves. Should change his name to Slappy.

No "they" haven't complained and don't have an issue with it. One player gobbed off to a few reporters and I can guarantee that if they hadn't outlawed punching in the NRL then Tamou would've thrown the first punch before getting floored.
All this mock outrage to stir something up on the internet is embarrassing. I bet 99% of you were cheering when it happened.
FFS the NQL coach even joked about it.

Spot on, they'd be no condemnation of the Cowboy player who floored him on here, only congratulations.
Seem to recall people mostly thanking Radford for striking Bailey a few times when he wasn't in a position to defend himself.
Load of faux outrage hypocrites on here.
