| Quote ="Nozzy"Not sure but this season we only used 1 (Moimoi) so we have plenty room on that front. Also Mathias Pala but he's French so not sure that he counts towards the quota?'"
It gets a bit tricky for Championship clubs.
SL clubs are allowed 7 Non-Federation Trained players and 5 Overseas Quota players (these run side by side, not an addition to each other).
The Championship clubs are also allowed 7 NFT players but, according to the operational rules, only 1 Overseas Quota player.
For those who don't know, the Overseas Quota is (basically) anyone who isn't an EU national. So, for instance, Roy Asotasi would count on Warrington's Overseas Quota as he (AFAIK) doesn't have an EU passport.
However Pat Richards didn't count on Wigan's Overseas Quota because he had an Irish passport.
It's obviously quite easy to get around for a lot of Aussies who have European heritage. But the Quota is still active.
The Non-Federation Trained quota is anyone who wasn't trained in the RLEF (European Federation) area. So both Roy Asotasi and Pat Richards did count on this list because they were both trained down under and not in Europe. But French players wouldn't count on anyone's quota because they were obviously trained in Europe. The players who were in SL when the rules came in (200icon_cool.gif were exempted from it, but they're few and far between now.
These 2 rules run side by side, so some players could be 1 or both quotas.
For instance at Leeds it would be:
Overseas Quota (5 of max 5) -
Joel Moon
Kylie Leuluai
Paul Aiton
Brett Delaney
Mitch Garbutt
NFT: (6 of max 7)
Joel Moon
Paul Aiton
Brett Delaney
Mitch Achurch
Adam Cuthbertson
Mitch Garbutt
Leuluai isn't on the NFT because he was at Leeds prior to 2008. Cuthbertson and Achurch aren't on the OQ because they have British passports.
So Leigh's worries aren't about the 7 Non-Federation Trained players they can have, it's the 1 Overseas Quota player they're allowed that'll be the problem.

| Which bit of rules changed last season do you not grasp as Bradford and London had more overseas players on quota than the current national leagues allowed at the time so the championship teams were brought inline with it as will the salary cap soon

Harrison's not Tongan. He did spend most of his youth locally though, attending Moorside school in Swinton and coming up through Folly Lane and Wigan academy, so shouldn't count on any quota.

| The use of overseas "exempt" players at the expense of the hard work of training and developing home grown players is still , IMO, a major reason why sport as a whole is declining in this country.
Soccer is an absolute joke, RU is, as is cricket etc etc.
Then people wonder why the country cannot produce international teams that are competitive.

London brought on a prop from Wakey when in SL who was one overseas player too many on the quota and he wasn't allowed to be registered and was released.

| Leigh haven't had to show any discipline in the Championship, they can chuck the ball around & outscore the part timers too easily... but step up a level & their inability to sustain or handle pressure is exposed. All these signings will do is enable them to run up bigger scores with less effort. Still won't help against stronger opposition.

All our international teams are competitve. Winning things? Not all of them do. Rugby union and cricket have, football and rl not in generations. But they are competitive.

Part-time Halifax 34 Leigh 12
Best points tally by Leigh = 22
Aggregate score over 3 games:-
Part-time Halifax 54 Leigh 52.
Leigh's problem was that Wakey improved by getting Brian Smith, Halifax got better as season went on & Bradford targeted the Leigh game as a must win.
Leigh stood still whilst becoming over-confident allowing everyone to overtake them.
I do find the fall amusing. The thuggery not been rewarding justifying but also appreciate they can play great rugby + don't want the status quo re-inforced.
I worry with Beaumont publicly saying they'll break the cap & the signings announced that they put all their eggs in the super league basket & that wont end nice

No need to break the cap if you can bypass the cap.
Lets also not forget the £250k intentional breaking of the cap by little Wigan in desperation to avoid relegation & the subsequent sudden onset mute state that the RFL employed in not dealing with it.
Rules like those imposed by the RFL that promote segregation are always likely to be challenged at some point by a vertebrate.
Current SL status clubs would never vote for even a partial closing of the 'cap gap' as it is by design intended to impose significant restraint on the have nots, thereby protecting the position of the haves.
More power to those who have the cojones to take on the the big man.

So are you an 'ex player' ? Who knows what goes through a player's mind, thought complacency would be the last of them...(else we would have lost more than 1 league game) playing 'part time amatuers' Is this the same reason Warrington Wolves had a dire 'Super 8's' ? Doubt it, it was probably because the other teams were a lot better on the day.

So what if he employs players wives, lots of clubs do that. It isn't breaking the cap, it's included in the cap. It's done to help players wives (generally the Aussie ones who've had to uproot and move across the world) to get a job and an income. It helps with visas for the Aussies coming over and of course means they pay less tax than if all that money went directly to the player.
As for the rest of your post, well you're starting to sound as paranoid and strange as your clubs chairman.

Leigh's problem is that by the time the 8's came round too many key bodies were busted, 7 are having ops already and our 3 ballplayers are included.
The CC run took too much out of the tank and with hindsight did us no favours as everybody expected us to do better in the 8's.
Injuries happen though, the new personnel will add experience for when crunch time comes again.
Hopefully we will fair better next time, but a lot of our fans don't help.

They seem to be the ones causing all the problems, according to many who post on here. Can't we have consistency

| Think Leighs problem in the middle 8s was that they stuck to the same gameplan that had served them so well throughout the season. It was noticeable that Halifax,Sheffield and Bradford all adapted better as the comp went on and had more options than Leigh did.
That said it should not detract from what was a great season for Leigh and i am sure they will come back an even bigger force next year and with lessons learned will be a serious threat in next years middle 8s

Beaumont considered it all a conspiracy - involving everybody. Then he decided he had a 2 yrs plan.
There is consistency where one of their former players Anthony Bate has just been banned for 6 games. He was playing for Barrow, the last club who were deducted points for salary cap breaches;eventually!

| I'm not sure dismantling Salford and re-sticking it all onto Leigh will work. Even their awful sayings are being nicked - LEIGHvolution.
The problem with buying Salford in a jumble sale is the fact that theirs wasn't the greatest set of instructions to model your average ambitious RL club on.
