| At home and NZ without Johnson and Foran, I would have England down as favourites, not sure about easy, they are still ranked number 1 in the world.

You haven't mentioned the one-trick pony Farrell playing poop tonight and getting sent to the bin for his pathetic 'tackle' and costing England any chance of winning the game, but of course form isn't something you notice is it?

This clearly isn't about our international game.'"
Quote ="moto748"Agreed. I wish the mods would take a much stronger line on this (as they would on many other forums).'"
Threads like this bring in advertising revenue so the mods will be told to leave them up and not to interfere. It's sad really as this used to be a good, busy forum but these days, mainly due to one very odd poster from New Zealand derailing thread after thread via his numerous aliases, it's degenerated into an RU v RL borefest with hardly anyone posting any more.
If you want real RL talk probably best to find a different forum or use Twitter like many of us are doing these days.

| Quote ="loiner81", mainly due to one very odd poster from New Zealand derailing thread after thread via his numerous aliases,.'"
I have one active ID on this forum and have always only had one active ID at any time.
I have already shown you that this thread was not derailed by me, but by numerous other posters who felt the need to continue with the flawed comparisons of 2 totally different sports with varying levels of popularity. The shooting of the messenger by you is proof enough that you have nothing to add to this debate other than to scream like a little girl and hope that the moderators come along and intervene.
The harsh reality is that the OP was wrong and this annoys you because you can't accept that the International game in RL is all about 3 sides who can win it, 2 other sides that have actual natives playing for their countries and 9 "countries" rammed with heritage players. That's not development and neither is having a contrived draw that will again result in the same 3 semi-finalist in 2017 that we had in 2013 and 2008 before that and in 2000....oh and again in 1995.
Do you fancy a wager on naming 3 of the 4 semi-finalists for RLWC 2021?
I care little for the RWC 2015 but the incessant need for some RL fans to constantly try to compare the sports management with a view to painting league in a better light is insanity. International RL is what it is...a 3 horse race and we should accept that. if we are serious about developing it further, then France should be a permanent fixture in the NH 4 nations and PNG should be permanent in the SH 4 nations.
Beneath this, there should be a second tier International tournament run along the lines of the B grade union 6 nations.....games home and away over a 2 year period with strict limits on the numbers of heritage players allowed.. The RLIF/RLEF would need to assist with travel costs etc but gradually you'd see the game grow in these countries, rather than just picking 23 Aussies/Brits who's mother once drank a Pint of Guinness to represent Ireland.
The Irish guys who travelled to Serbia last month are the guys who should be trying to qualify for the World Cup and representing their country.....not Pat Richards et al.....

I didn't drift this thread and nor did I make it about the RWC. It's a sad reflection on the standard of posters here that debate is dead and accusations are the new currency. You claimed I'd ruined the thread and claimed I'd made it about the RWC 2015 and that's all people want to hear......because they can't handle certain facts. ....here's a recap for you.
PAGE 1
Quote ="Madderzahatter"International RL is a joke, mainly because the RLIF is a joke. That and the fact the NRL don't give a toss either. The RLWC left zero legacy on the game. The RUWC will p!ss all over the RLWC in terms of revenue, crowd figures etc...'"
PAGE 2
Quote ="moto748"Everything but tries and entertainment value, in fact.'"
Quote ="reffy"England made 77 tackles in their World Cup game against Fiji . James Roby made 62 tackles in the Saints v Wigan game.'"
Quote ="moto748"I just watched the highlights (JAPAN GAME). But the simple fact is that games like the Japan match are very much the exception to the rule in international RU.'"
Quote ="Ferdy"I obviously prefer watching rugby league, but I do enjoy watching RU as well, and personally cannot get my head round why people in league hate it so much, unless they are just envious of the coverage and exposure it gets. I also think RU is improving as a spectacle and the more RL influence of the offload and skills is assisting this. If anyone watches the Southern Hemisphere league that is very exciting to watch.
In Union the internationals are given more qudos over the league with clubs missing their star players while the 6 nations is on.
Also there is more quality at international level. Can u imagine a 6 nation tournament in league. There would be hissy fits about players playing in it and it would not be a competition at all.'"
Quote ="meast"i doubt any RL fan would even try and deny that off the field RU is light years ahead of RL
on the field it's the other way round, imagine how popular "rugby" could be with union's money, marketing and influences, and league been played on the pitch?'"
Quote ="wire-quin"What an amazing start to the RU world cup, they really do put on a great event.'"
I HAD YET TO POST IN THIS THREAD AND ALREADY PEOPLE ARE COMPARING BOTH GAMES ON AND OFF THE PARK....
PAGE 3
Quote ="kobashi"When I have watched union world cup in the past I have found the smaller nations actually take risks and kick less.
It's when then the knock out stages begin where it becomes absolute drivel. Teams play extremely safe and you just see teams kicking for goals and playing for penalties constantly.
The rules allow teams to be negative and win games.
Also I dunno why some fans have a problem with league fans not watching rugby union. I generally don't enjoy watching rugby union. It's nothing to do with union being a bigger spectacle. I just don't particularly like the sport.'"
Quote ="Juan Cornetto"In Union only solo tackles are recorded as once joined by others it becomes a maul or ruck. In league 2nd 3rd and 4th floppers are awarded as a tackle. Forwards in Union have to work hard to contest possession in tackles, mauls, rucks, line outs and in real scrums. So your comparison is irrelevant as a comparison.'"
Quote ="JB Down Under"Problem is it is like watching a poor amateur game of league most of the time with all the stopping and starting, kicking in to touch, penalties and general lack of ball in play. Still each to their own. In league the domestic competitions have always taken precedent since its inception, just the way it has been and is likely to stay.'"
SO HALF WAY THROUGH PAGE 3, WITH PLENTY OF COMPARING GOING ON AND I ADDRES THE ORIGINAL POSTERS CLAIMS:
Quote ="The Changing Man"Maybe you should stop obsessing about Union and you should definitely hold back on the straight comparisons......
660 players in 20 squads at RUWC 2015 of which I can find 71 playing for countries other than that of their Birth. 11%........that's a lot.
322 players in 14 squads at RLWC 2013 of which I could find 159 playing for countries other than that of their birth. That's 49%....that's a Joke...even more so when you consider those 159 were split between 9 sides at over 17 per 23 man squad as an average!'"
AND THEN IT BEGINS:
Quote ="ThePrinter"The biggest joke is that you spent your time noting the birthplace of nearly 1,000 players to try prove a point on a website.'"
Quote ="loiner81"Another thread completely derailed by the clearly unwell Gutterfax and his multiple accounts.
Didn't take long at all for this thread about international RL to become a thread about the RUWC.
Is it any wonder that hardly anyone visits this forum anymore? The mods clearly don't spend any time here and I bet ad revenue's at an all time low.
Think i'll go check Twitter out for a bit before work. This place is dead.'"
......and whilst you champion twitter, you still keep coming back here?

| Quote ="Sir Kevin Sinfield"The International game in RL is often branded a joke compared to RU, due to players qualifying through means such as the grand parent rule or residency.
In the RU World Cup Wales have 11 foreign born players, as do Scotland. France have 10 and Austrailia 8. This has barely been mentioned and the fans don't seem to care.
Maybe we shouldn't talk our own game down so much and then wonder why the media give it little attention.'"
Its not something that the union loving media want to discuss.
The union loving media are very selective.

| England RL posted on Facebook that 15k tickets have been sold for the England game at the KC, 30k for the Olympic Stadium and 13k for Wigan.
65% of sales in London are to London and South East postcodes.
I think selling out the Hull and Wigan games and getting over 40k for the Olympic stadium would be a great effort. A winning start for England against France and in the 1st test will of course help.

So at the moment we have a decent turn out with 2 weeks till kick off.
Would be better if it was a good turn out. I'm sure many will say 30000 is not half full but it's still twice as many as for the other 2 games.

30k is already over half full, as capacity at Olympic Stadium is now just over 50k. Some of the seats at the top on the ends have been removed or taped off for its future as a football ground, as the view isn't good enough. Also as they haven't put the top tier on one side on sale yet the other 3 stands facing the cameras will be pretty full already.

It took the top tier off after the Olympics to make it a manageable size for West Ham.

| Considering these games are essentially friendlies I think the sales are decent. Would like to think there will be at least 20k at each of the northern games and 40k at Olympic but there is still time to go for tickets to sell. If we could sell out the northern games and get 40k at Olympic then we would be looking at a 30k average which would be brilliant and easily achievable!

| sorry mate, but the RLWC should be seen as a celebration of the game, and that's what it should be marketed as, all matches except the final should be held in small stadia, if England v NZ would have bn held in Hull in 2013 I reckon England would have gone through. Obv. the final at Old Trafford.
Also, I'd like to get rid of the posts and the 10m, 30m and the half-way lines. 4 points for a try, and 1 for the extra-point, which would be a passing play starting roughly about 5m out from the try line 20m in form touch, on which side the team wanted. Have 2 refs if possible, start the match with a pass off the floor from the middle of the 40m line of the team passing the ball. And re-starts with a play-the-ball form the 40m line of the team scored against. So there would still be a 40/20. Have our pitch at Old Trafford 88m long, with 6.5m in-goal areas. And as I said no posts. But refs should use the sin-bin more often, though there should be an option for a 5 minute sin-bin.
And the 40m line only red, not red and white.

That's the reality of international RL outside the big three and where the major challenge lies for the RLIF.
