You seem to enjoy writing rubbish. How can coaching Quins for four years be interpreted as 'not good enough to coach Quins'? And who says Leeds wanted to replace him? Hetherington is quoted as saying he wanted him to stay. No doubt you are closer to Leeds's real intentions than the chairman of the club.

Bradford have sunk, hit rock bottom and turned their ship into a submarine
Leeds signings so far aren't too impressive though. I'd be getting that sinking feeling if I was a Leeds fan.

Yes, he built those title-winning squads and everything about them from scratch all by himself of course.
Even the most casual observer can see Leeds have gone from playing genuinely brilliant RL at times to a team of flat-track bullies who get off on hassling officials and complaining about every decision going against them. Fingers crossed they can get back to being a great RL side rather than a team of whiney bitches.

I think you'll find he won stuff [i because[/i he inherited that squad. A couple of years on and his coaching has taken hold and Leeds won...nothing. And never looked like doing.

And what did he achieve at Quins in that time?
Maybe it was the...ummm.... hang on... perhaps it was that win against.......ah no.. ummmm.
He was at Quins for so long because they couldnt afford to sack him.
Bluey said he wanted away from Leeds a long time ago... hence why they got McDermott in.
But why on earth they chose him is a mystery.

We indulged him for a while because he did, for all his faults, buy in to the 'Quins project', and he made a demonstrable commitment to bringing kids through. I think he stayed on a season too long, and I doubt honestly we had the money to fire him then or any earlier even if we'd wanted to.

Tony Smith inherited a bloody good squad as well. Does that make Darryl Powell the key to Leeds' 2004 and 2007 successes?

I suspect the groundwork he laid had a lot more to do with it than many gave him credit for, if you are looking for a serious reply.

| I don't get the majority of comments on here. McClennan did a great job for Leeds. Maintaining a successful team and being up there at the end of the season AGAIN despite losing some of the most talented players in the country for long periods deserves great credit.
I am surprised by the timing though - As the press release says I thought he would have stayed for 2011 and brought McDermott up to speed. With Poching et all already gone it looks like it's going to be a steep learning curve for McDermott and his new team

Not being funny, but would you care to list Tony Smith and Daryl Powell's great coaching successes before they took on the Leeds job?
If anything McLennan was the highest profile coaching recruitment at the club since Leeds brought Doug Laughton in from Widnes. While his club record was nothing special he'd had success with the Kiwis.

Indeed. This inherited team stuff is a load of old crap peddled by folk who refuse to admit something may be wrong at their club, it's the oldest cliche in the book.
McLennan is a good quality proven coach end of and it was he who steered Leeds to their recent success and no one else.. McDermott is anything but, he has no track record of success at all and this can only be viewed by all but the most myopic of Leeds fans as a retrograde step, at least in the short term.
I wish Brian, a stout and tough Wakey lad all the best but I can't help but think he will be way out of his depth at such a relatively early point in his coaching career.

I would imagine Smith's win percentage at Huddersfield stacks up well by comparison to McDermott's at Quins, but I don't have the stats to hand.

Given that win percentage will have been bolstered by going a whole season unbeaten as the only full-time side in a part-time competition, I'd say it's irrelevant personally.

Someones else has noticed
He took a TEAM of rugby players , who were a joy to watch, and turned them into a team that was playing Thugby at times and were on the edge legal tactics wise.
I really look forward ( no pun intended) to Leeds being the good team they really could be again.

That time has gone Leaguefan - over the next 2-3 years this Leeds side will be disassembled and replaced almost en masse, with the likes of Peacock, Leuluai, Senior etc following Diskin and Donald out the door.
The challenge facing McDermott is going to be one of restructuring, not turning back the clock to 2004.
