| So £1Million would be what you would want spent on the Championship? IIRC the current Sky deal nets SL clubs £1M each and I thought that Championship clubs are currently getting £100k, so that means the current deal gets the clubs in total £15M. The money you want means either 6% more from Sky or SL clubs to accept about the same amount less (what, about 60k each).
Ideally some money would be generated by televising Championship matches that would go towards this income. At the moment Sky show Championship matches for free. Where will this extra money come from?

| You could possibly have it on a sliding scale?
Plus If you're having regional marketing teams then possibly one could cover the likes of Leigh, Widnes, Swinton, Oldham, Rochdale on a budget of 150,000 for the lot?

| Would a marketing "hit squad" work?
Employed by the RFL, with 2 managers and 2 other staff, this team could liaise with the marketing person at each of the clubs below SL and offer advice, suggestions and resource to assist in the promotion of games and attendance.
This, coupled with a financial assistance package should do the trick!

Throw in some cash for marketing merchandise and much could be done
The RFL should also purchase and operate some form of ' roadshow ' vehicle that would visit all clubs during the season and at the same time give a cash ' buy out ' for a game allowing the club to open the gates for free to all
The ideal time for this would be prior to Championships clubs TV appearances as in my opinion all clubs should feature in one home game per season

No , SL clubs recieve 1.2 million each per season
No , the total ' prize fund ' available to all 21 Championship clubs is 2.1 million , this includes 200 K for the GF finalists , 50 K for the NRC finalists , 140 K for the Co op sponsorship paid for TV matches only , around 200 K to easyjet,Ryanair,BMI baby,Hotel bills, coach transfers per season to have Toulouse in the competition
So this leaves around 60 K per club that has to be spent on key F/T personell even if the clubs dont need these personell to operate F/T and there are also certain targets these people have to meet or the money can be withdrawn
Do not believe all the ' spin ' put out by the RFL
The money is there , it's just the RFL dont understand what they should be spending it on

Or even clubs in SL that have the same problem
The resource required is personell , and preferably a bloody great big bus/trailer/articulated 'Big Rig ' that can be used locally to the club
Yes finance for individually targeted marketing be that a 1,000 kids t shirts screen printed as a Quins ' bat ' shirt given out free to all the 7 yr olds in the borough complete with a free family ticket for a match or whatever else has worked elsewhere , maybe blitzing a set area with advertising rather than half hearted attempts spread over a season

Unfortunatley you like the RFL dont seem to realise that every time a team wins , one loses as well
In the RFL ' cosy world ' there are only winners ' positives ' no losers ' negatives '

200k to weekend in Toulouse? I think the clubs need to sort out their spending. Even if you take a 20 man squad over there and 10 assorted physios, coaches etc, you're still valuing the cost of a weekend to TO and back at £6k. Do Leigh really spend that much? What did I miss?
I agree with you about the marketing, not sure I would want a £12k job where I have to commute through a number of offices over a month. Sure there's a credit crunch but if you pay peanuts you get monkies.
I also like your idea of all the championship clubs having a joint shirt deal with a manufacturor.
Both the marketing and the shirt idea don't necessarily need the RFL, couldn't the clubs sort out the shirts themselves and the marketing job a couple local clubs could sort something out themselves first, then move on from there.

Yes I was guessing at the cost of the cross channel trips , so ye it might be 120/130 k , or it might be as high as 200 k , but i notice you havent challenged the rest , so you now understand that all the Championship clubs DO NOT GET 100 K EACH
I said 12 to 15 k , which is not bad given as many would be people that actually want to and enjoy working for their respective clubs , enthusiasm for the clubs and the sport is probably just as important as having a degree if we are talking about the infantry , the officers are the ones that need the marketing expertise
Agreed the Merchandise idea is actually better if the RFL were not involved and there are countless other ideas that would only work if the clubs get together for the common good , as with many things like this pride and self importance can get in the way of collaboration , with some clubs thinking they are ' above ' others
But the marketing definatley needs to be led by the RFL in my opinion

I never pretended to know the facts about this, I run mostly off things written in an authoritive fashion on this forum - like most people here.
You are guessing at the cost of the TO trip, how's about this for a guess - 30 people at 1k each = £30k.
I'm sure there was an article on the Beeb about £100k to Championship clubs, you say there's strings attached, but you want to attach strings yourself (tie money to marketing).
I am confused by your attitude towards the RFL, you say they suck but then when something needs sorting out they're the only people who can do it. You point out some very good ideas, but the clubs chose not to do this, so you want the RFL to force them to - but when the RFL try to force them to improve in a way that is not exactly the way you think they should go about it you get all vitriolic.

I think you are getting confused here , I would estimate the cost of taking a team either to Toulouse or for Toulouse to come here to be around 6-10 K per game depending on which team and what time of the year etc
Read my earlier post , the total amout of money available to the 21 Championship clubs is 2.1 million , which if divided equally works out at 100 k each
That is how the RFL publicised it , but in reality that include all sponsorship monies from Nothern rail and the Co-oP and travel costs as well
So in theory every club ' could ' access 100 k , in truth a few will get more and most will get a lot less

Partly joking.
I know that a few years back there was a kind of 'means tested' portion of the Championship (or NL1 as 'twere) salary cap. A club could apply to spend more if it could show that it could afford to spend more (within certain limits). I can only assume, having heard nothing about changes to this since, that these are the dispensations the quoted text refers to.
