| Quote ="dally messenger"if you want to promote RL in new markets, the best way to do it is with the best product.
its worked in melbourne to help the storm, a market similar to london in terms of loyalties to a rival sport.
because of origin the storms crowds grew by around 50% after they got a game and awareness of RL in the city increased hugely.
and as ive said before someone like russel crowe could be used to market it.
hes is world famous, indeed hes in england now shooting the movie robin hood.
would the game do well with crowe backing it? course it would.
take off the blinkers boys'"
OK – here's a thing, which is why I accused you and your cohorts of being arrogant and patronising tosspots earlier – England is not a new market for RL: we don't need you to stage one of your domestic competition games over here to 'generate interest'. Got it yet?

26 years of professional RL, two professional teams, a host of amateur teams, loads of kids playing the game, home of the biggest game in RL (the Cup Final) for well over nearly 90 year – and the sooner we move back to hosting at least one international at Wembley the better.
What it doesn't need is some arrogant and patronising Ockers insisting that playing one of their domestic games between two teams 98% of Londoners have never heard of and have no interest in is something we need as a favour.
If you think you need to take Origin on the road to build interest in RL, have a look at WA, Victoria or Northern Territory first.

| Is this thread still going!!
Anyway as TB said, the ARL need to look into expand the game of RL in their own country before looking at another, Western Australia especially!! I mean it is supposed to be the National Rugby League isn't it?

perhaps.
perhaps people might actually read the quote and see how it applies to the thread title rather than just talking about the punctuation

as ive said before, london and melbourne are pretty much the same wrt to RL.
the ARL took an origin to melbourne to promote the sport there, and guess what, it worked fabulously
why is the idea of a game to try and benefit RL such a bad thing?

Good on them, so if it works in Melbourne why not branch out a bit further in Australia before looking at options like England, as i said I would have thought Western Australia would be a prime target to spread the game.

depends on the pov.
i dont see any arrogance.
i see people that dont watch the game saying its a bad idea.
thats sounds like a poor way to make a decision on something
and i think the idea that an australian game is needed to help RL in england is also something that is making people feel insecure.

The tri-nations final was held in Leeds which is in RL heartland. Over here internationals carry far more weight than what the war of the roses did and what origin does, so people will be more willing to attend.
Origin may have boosted RL interest in Melbourne and helped to increase the Storms crowds, but that just will not work in London. For the vast majority of Londoners if it isn't soccer than they just don't want to know.

No the Idea that an Australian thinks the sport of RL in England needs an Australian game for it to expand is where the arrogance comes in.
I watch the SoO and i will be lucky enough to see a fair few live in the next few years, but I cannot see what help it would do playing it at wembley, sure it would be a novelty and I'm sure it would sell a few tickets but as for expanding the game in this country i just cannot see how it would help.

the idea that it would be a good idea in england.
to say it would be a good idea elsewhere is irrelevant
why did leeds and souths play in jacksonville.
they couldve played it in WA as well?

hey ive thrown in russel crowe to publicise it.
because of the publicity he created for the leeds / souths game they got 13,000 or so as a crowd and they were on shows like the TOnight Show with Jay Leno

its something different that RL cant offer the english public, and its something unique to english sport.
so the novlety would be a big attraction.
the fact that it is very entertaining will also help more people become interested in RL.
