| Quote ="J20"I think it's pretty clear they have decided that! Remember the RFL has been checking up on clubs 'promises' and 'improvement areas' since day one so they'll have a good idea where all clubs are at. With no new stadiums built they have clearly decided someone must face the music for not getting it done in the promised time frame in 2007.'"
Problem for the RFL is that is Salford, Wakefield and Castleford all have foundations laid, girders in and men in hard hats on site by July 2011, are they really going to cut loose a club with a brand new stadium?

Yes
An interesting turn of phrase though , surely that club would be joining a vibrant worth winning in its own right competition ? , so whats the problem ?

14,000 empty seats in a 30 million pound 15,000 seater stadium........(no quins jokes please) to start with.
Castleford and Wakefield may well keep 2,000 or so fans in the Championship....but Salford would bu lucky to average 1,000.....and these stadiums will need to be paid for, then there's the up keep etc..etc.....

Tough , its called sport , maybe Leigh should have asked if they could be guaranteed a SL spot before getting the LSV built ?
Widnes and Doncaster maybe as well ?

Of course it is!
Well done to Salford - those pictures make their progress very clear and very tangible. Presumably the next step will be piling / foundations and infrastructure - pipework and cabling?
Are those the retail units at the back of the car park?

| Its a pity its too late to be considered in the process though, as was made clear last time you have to be in and playing for it to be considered.
Salford need to get away from Weaste, good luck to them.

Have to agree with that, all begged for the last SL franchises on the basis of new grounds being completed DURING that licence period. All will fail at that.
If you want this system to work you can't just let clubs throw a load of last min work in and then say ok, as you'll find Champ clubs just won't bother knowing current SL clubs would just cut squad in final year and enhance plans so can get the nod again only to do the same next time around.
If all at a simialr stage what i'd look at is what clubs have had to sacrafice to get that far... Salford for next year now seem ok and have finally invested in squad and by sounds looking at youth set up at last. Cas' youth remains strong and though they have lost two big players (one for a fee) they have still been recruiting good quality SL players, proven. Then you have Wakey, who are cutting players left, right and centre and using the 'young & hungry card' which Salford tbf used last year on said 40% of cap I read. They then needed an outside benefactor to pay off a tax bill for them and here's the main bit, unliek Cas they aren't paying a penny for their proposed new stadium and have alreeady sold Belle View. That for me simply leaves the Wildcats for the drop.

The difference between Salford and Leigh is that the RFL WANT Salford to be part of superleague. They changed the goal posts for Leigh last time because they see you as you are, a club that represents a small area of Wigan.
They will change the goal posts again to ensure our inclusion this time, stadium permitting. Sorry, but that is the way it is.

Oh to be judge jury and excecutioner - based on purely perceptions and little genuine understanding of reality.
Of course all the clubs were sitting there thinking 'oh, isn't it time we found that missing £20m in the basement to build a new stadium?' You have been fortunate not to have to contribute to your own stadia and you were lucky to have a local authority who were pro-active in supporting your club - and good luck to you. We had the most backward thinking policy in Wakefield - one which constantly resorted to 'we can't do for one what we can't do for all' - resulting in nothing. Despite this, the game remains the number one sport in the district and what we are attempting to achieve is to retain and enhance that position within the sport. I fail to see how your 'cull' is of any benefit to the sport - providing the consultants are satisfied 100% of the delivery of the promised stadium.

I know he has links but Wakey made this sound like a great thing whereas IMO it just looked bad on the club. If the club would of paid it off then fine, well done but this looks like they 'needed' someone else to do it. It's similar to Halifax supporters trust being the one's trying to get 26k to fund a reserve side. Shouldn't the club be doing that? Use supporters trust to pay the wages of 1 / 2 players instead and the club looks ten times better because THEY set up reserves / academy sides rather than a linked group.

I won't deny how fortunate we have been FWIW Halton council are fantastic in their support of local projects and have just passed for a cinema etc now and once new bridge is built more retail units come with it. But you have to ask why haven't Wakey council stepped in... is it mainly just due to conflict between Wakey & Cas? (which is understanable) but do you not think this could of been sorted years a go when Labour were happily letting councils invest plenty and also when you guys got into SL and i presume crowds and interest rose so should of been banging to the council to say we need this stadium help to keep momentum going?
As you have said it's not all about stadiums so if all 3 get one then they'll move onto other issues as someone WILL BE GOING so I just hope clubs have covered themselves in other areas too. I'd love to see the RFL with a massive problem on their hands but only since making this 1 Champ club in 1 SL club out promise (based on conditions) have things really kicked into action, so can't really blame them.

That is wrong - actually it helps us in our case with our LA as it has focused their minds on the job in the way that we have been working for over the last 6 years. The current project has been around for 2 years - so it's not like we were all sitting around until the RFL made this (stupid IMO) statement.
Put it this way - I haven't come across another example which has required the formation of a pressure group to get their council to get their act together - which is what we were faced with in Wakey!

its sad that YOU needed to bring a small town in wigan into this argument to justify your being in SLE.

I am not trying to justify anything, just responding to you post regarding it being too late for OUR new stadium to be considered because that was the excuse the RFL used to prohibit YOUR inclusion last time.
The reason the RFL did not consider your new stadium last time was because they did not want you in superleague, nothing more, nothing less. THEIR perception of Leigh is the small town in Wigan bit, not mine.
I know you don't want to hear that, but that does not make it less true.

I'd love to see a strong SL club in Cumbria and we should have poured recourses into that county in order to achieve this.
On the population question The Wakefield District has a population of around =#0040FF350,000 but if you remove Castleford, Featherstone, Normanton, Altofts, Knottingley, Ackworth, Airdale, Fryston, Ryhill, Hemsworth you are left with a population of around =#0040FF 135,000 which is much larger (almost double) that of Barrow at =#0040FF72,000
