Why would the commonwealth, who we already trade with, suddenly be such a great option and thats before we get onto the subject of some of these countries already trying to become republican states, away from our "control"
Anyway, back to RL, we just have to ensure that the game can grow, regardless of who we may get into bed with economically.

You don't think these nations recognise the position of huge weakness we've put ourselves in? They have us by the knackers. S**t happens though and life goes on.

| The main risk to me would be the potential for a reduction in funding from government for the game as a whole if the economy struggles. Austerity has already had a crippling effect on the community game and participation.
As far as travel between the EU and UK is concerned I don’t foresee too many problems. If we need Visas to travel to the EU then they’ve really messed up the negotiations.

Not really. Things have a tendency to work themselves out. A big good bye the endless money pit Brussels Sprout will be a blessing in the long run.

| Not sure it would affect RL too much unless an English team wants to sign a Frenchman. (If visas are required). However it would give Football the chance to cap the influx of non British players in the various leagues if there was no free movement

| Brexit? Really?
However did this country manage before 1973 (when we joined the Common Market)? Or didn't RL exist befor Super League?
Rules may change but Rugby League will survive whether we are in Europe or not.
I will also go out on a limb and say the sky won't fall in either.

| The sport has suffered in the past 10 years due to a lack of money be that money from Sport England for the grassroots, money from sponsors and money from spectators. Players in the UK have seen static earnings for ages as have spectators. Sponsorship is harder to find as companies are finding their margins tighten. The recession and austerity have taken a toll on the game. If Brexit causes further economic hardship it’ll hit the game hard as it’s already vulnerable with many clubs living hand to mouth.
It’s got to be a risk.
The issues about visas and passports are a red herring IMO.

Agreed.
The economy has had a massive effect on RL and any negative economic effects Brexit has on the economy will hit RL harder than a lot of other sports.

| I'm gonna draw a line on this Karen, purely because I cannot do drama.
I've got SCOUSELEAGUER on ignore but one final point, do you know how rude it is to address someone and use red text?

Moderators use red to address issues, so that the post can be seen clearly. I always reply politely, stating please and thank you.
You could almost say it's almost as rude as posting/shouting in block capitals.

| Notwithstanding the player movements, which could put them on par with Australia (or worse in no-deal) isn't the blindingly obvious impact the economic impact?
We know that RFL fans are not the ABC demographics that attract the high spending sponsors. The average fan is of a more working-class background, with the loss of income / increased costs many won't be at games. Sponsors will not want to put as much money into the game, the grassroots already strapped for cash will have even less money.
As for no deal, that's the French games rather disrupted pretty quickly with delays at all ports, assuming flights work then reduced impacts and the Canada ones too as the air agreements between the EU would be dead and need to be recreated. I would think the sport wouldn't be on many people's mind in that scenario.

The economic impact is the big one certainly. Nobody knows how it'll turn out for sure but according to JRM it could be 50 years before any Brexit benefit is seen. I think the game will suffer if the economy takes a turn for the worse.
As for the ports issue, it'll require clubs to get organised well in advance to make sure all the paperwork has been done before away games in France. It's not caused any issues with Toronto has it Trouble is nobody knows what paperwork may or may not be necessary. It's not just about individual players and staff either. Will a club doctor in the UK still be accredited in the EU post Brexit? Will he/she be able to bring medical supplies over or will they need a permit? Teams will need to make sure insurance policies still cover them post Brexit too. When you start to think about it there are a lot of unknowns. No deal will throw all this into utter confusion.

| Brexit will make the whole country poorer, including all British Rugby League fans, clubs and sponsors. This will only further widen the massive gap between Super League and the NRL. Many of the best and most intelligent British players are already playing down under.
