| Quote ="Dunbar"Hang on a minute - if every media outlet in the country were running headlines saying "Rugby League international fails to make the grade in club Rugby Union", we would be up in arms
This isn't a positive RL story for me so I'm happy it isn't too widely reported'"
i agree - on the whole, this isnt a positive story for rugby league. If a current England RU international signed for a Super League team and failed after 2 months, we would be laughing our cocks off on here about how inferior their game is compared to ours.
It either shows that top RL players cant handle RU, or that the RL champions are resorting to raiding the ranks of RU reserves to fill their team.
the only potential positives to this story are that:
a) other top players see it as a warning that its not that easy to make it in RU
b) RU clubs decide not to target RL players as its not worth the risk
The RFU has already gone down the route of (b) in that they do not directly target RL players on central deals now.

| I'd have thought a player moving to the current Super League Champions would class as news, no matter where they have come from. Would Logan make the same point should a player sign for Leicester, Gloucester, Bath et al?

| On the topic of getting BBC feedback on the prior complaint, I did eventually get a response - if I remember to I will post it on here. Was pretty smarmy and dismissed the whole thing, no apology of course.

Shim or not i would take my chances.
the point about gaby is that she takes every chance to have a go at RL often when it is not called for.
I expect some impartiality from the reporters if she does not like a story let her ignore it but having a go at another journo because of her petty prejudices about RL is not professional or acceptable.

Was it my imagination or did I see Chris Ashton in an England shirt against France? How many times did Lote play for Australia?
RL players have the ability to make an impact in RU the problem is their ability to handle all the off the field stuff.
Mixing with players from public schools; the attitude of those players, the club's administrators and sponsors to kids from less priviledged backgrounds and rival sports. If you ever have a chance have a talk to Chev Walker about his treatment during his time in RU

Leicester Tigers 1st team squad:
(A) # of British players who attended public or independent school = 19
(B) # of British players who didn't attend public or independent school = 2
Northampton 1st team squad:
A = 17
B = 10 (including Ashton & Myler)
Saracens 1st team squad:
A = 10
B = 7
London Irish 1st team squad:
A = 14
B = 6
London Wasps 1st team squad:
A = 19
B = 4
Bath 1st team squad:
A = 15
B = 8
I've only been bothered to look at half of the Guinnes Premiership teams so far but I think you can see a pattern emerging.
Top half of current Guinness Premiership table:
# of British players who attended public or independent school = 94
# of British players who didn't attend public or independent school = 37

| To be fair to Gareth, it's not really the case at all in Wales and Union is very much a people's game, like RL in the North. I think this is probably the only country where this is so though, maybe NZ too.

You're correct there - and that is something Welsh RU and Rugby League have always had in common: both very much working class games played by hard men (part of the reason the old boy fraternity were so dead set against broken time payments imo), and a mutual dislike of the snotty-nosed old boy public school setup of English RU.
Which is also why I'm always surprised RL has never flourished in Wales, and has so much potential now (moreso with the Scorpions if you ask me). Tough men with a passion for the oval ball, and also explains why so many Welsh RU lads have done well at RL. It's a good match.

We all know that The Welsh RU is working class and that Gloucester is the same.
But you know as well as i do that the rest of the game is dominated as a Middle class sport and players in the rest of the British isles. that is one of the reasons behind welsh antipathy towards their english cousins and the reason welsh RU players adapted / converted to RL in the late 70s and 80s where as English RU players did not.

| Its a well known fact that the WRU were on their way to the historic meeting in Huddersfield in 1895 but were prevented from attending by poor weather (snow).
Had they attended they would have switched to League but in the days after the meeting a desrate ERU cut a deal with the Welsh to keep them in Union.
It's interesting to think how League would have faired had the Welsh switched back in 1895, with a larger geographical spread and the possibility of the Irish following their Welsh Celtic cousins, League could have had a much bigger base from which to progress. At the same time the English Union would have been prevented from launching the 4Ns and would have been denied the Welsh contingent in the Lions teams.
