we can only speculate about what if we had changed the management early enough after 8/9 games we could still have made top8 and possibly top4 if had made changes at the right time hindsight is great but I feel a lot of people could have predicted a poor season after a short amount of time yet the well paid so called professionals did not and we have suffered for it'"
Exactly. St Helens acted decisively and now have a sporting chance of the Top 4. Our problems were just as evident as those of our neighbours, but inaction has seen us into a battle for survival.

| Despite the talk of searches for a replacement getting under way in Oz, I feel that the options tabled were probably for an upcoming Aussie coach to work under Smith. And to be fair as an upcoming Aussie coach like Furner, I would want control of the reigns not to play second fiddle to somebody. My guess is they said no thanks.
I predict we'll be stuck with the current regime for the foreseeable future. I can't see the board sacking Smith, so we'll likely see a new number 2 brought in at some point in the future but nothing will really change. We need a fresh start and a clean sheet for the players.
6th-8th place for us next year and mediocrity resumed a la 2015. However the club will still be in profit so the sporting achievements side of things will take second stage for the next few years.

Anything is possible, but the post match interview with TS after the Wigan away win said to me he was out. That would tie in with Agar looking for another job.
Why would SM tie his hands and restrict his choice of new coaches by insisting TS remained, particularly after TS has been seen to fail in maintaining the club in the top 4.

| Is there any actual proof of TS handing in his resignation or is it just rumor on here. Only ask because i didnt pick anything up at the meeting last night that he would be gone when recruitment was talked about. I mean would a guy be involved in recruitment if was not going to be there, strange if that was the case.

| Again hypothetically, Smith would still have a passion for the club, but sees he needs to move on to get the team going again next year, SJM wants a smooth transition but still trust Smith's input.

| How you lot can blame Agar for your sides comical season is equally comical! Not one of you lot slaughtered him when the gormless giggler was laughing his way all the way to Old Trafford. Easy to pick fault when the going gets tough. Anyway, see you all on Friday on the Axminster!

He's not been with us for 3 seasons yet. Joined for start 2015 and Marshall and Poching left at the end of 2014.
Source : www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/27785262
Reading this article he signed a contract for 2015 and 2016, so must have extended at some point for 2017. I never saw any press release for that.
In researching for the illusive press release I came across this comment in the Warrington Guardian dated 28/10/2015 from rayco8 remarking on the 2015 season.
[iOur bad season was caused by bad coaching and conditioning, and nothing will change until the root cause - Richard Agar is taken out of the equation and replaced fully by Lee Briers as head of first team coaching
I continue to be amazed by the ineptness of Mr Agar as a coach, and this is again reinforced by yet another one of his coaching disasters last week (84 - 4)
England - France
Surely this cannot be allowed to continue in his present role within the club - if he stays, I genuinely fear for the Wire's future, and its time for decisive action from Simon Moran for the sake of the club we love[/i

Which ones?
He may be the best assistant coach in the world and the fans have it all wrong. Fact remains we are in the middle 8's and should not be.

Can't find the original article but apparently Lineham praised Agar for helping him with his jumping into the corner.
Smith doesn't seem to be the one holding training sessions anymore so he has to praise someone I suppose..

Maybe Agar's position will be one that is "refreshed for 2018" as Broomhead says. Together with a cull of those players we all recognise as not good enough.
I'm quite hopeful for 2018 as it surely must be an improvement on this season*

Could it be argued that a problem in the dressing room left unaddressed to the extent that it destroys a season, is a problem with the management?

I suppose it could since the fortunes of the club have deteriorated on Smith's watch with little or no apparent intervention by the club board or management.
Most of us have watched the club in lean times over the years but this season's collapse seems have been tolerated from on high .

| I notice that in today's WG all of the stories coming out of the club are accredited to Lee Briers. There is no reference to Tony Smith or Agar in any of them. So, what can we make from that?

Yeah, I read that article too.
I surmise that he knows that the Wire hierarchy want him out, & he is hanging-on for an offer by Warrington to buy his contract-out.
Its a game of cat & mouse now to see who blinks first.

| It was only a couple weeks ago that "Big Karl" was telling us how happy the club is to throw money at the best players at our rivals. Unfortunately we have only been able to get the unwanted players at a jumped up price but why wouldnt we be able to pay off squash boys wage if that's what it takes. Richard Agar hardly has a shining career in coaching Rugby League so suppose he could take the money and open a nice bakery somewhere.

We could easily afford to just keep paying his wage monthly and have him on garden leave. If he wants to go anywhere in the 12 months he will have to terminate.
I will be very disillusioned with the club if he remains for a 4th year.
