I don't like it either. Most folk aren't too impressed when people misspell or pronounce their own names, so why not offer the same basic courtesy to others, and readers? If you don't know how to spell a name, it only takes a couple of seconds to open another tab, and paste it into Google. Of course, if that's too much trouble...

Sometimes, incredibly, it's the name of their own player, or even coach! What sort of a fan are you, if you don't even know the coach's name?

Someone needs to let E Hemmings know that squoze is not the past participle of the verb to squeeze.

I think that and the word apostrophes with an unnecessary apostrophe were intentional, hence the wink.

Whilst we're on pronunciations, even the people on tannoy system at the KC get Josh Bowden name wrong. It's Bowden as in Strongbow, not Bowden as in Bowser.

Went to school with a Bowden in Hull and that was pronounced as the latter as in the front of a ship.

Also James Clarke gets Mahe Fonua's name wrong by making the O sound as a U, this simply isn't correct. Tongan o is pronounced as in go, the second/last syllable of the word should be stressed too. Think his name means something akin to 'of the same/similar ground'

Went to school with his brother, Tom. Unless they pronounce their surnames differently in the family, it's definitely the "o" from "go" like you say it should be for Fonua.

This was the early 80s, name was Steve, his family ( when I knew him) lived in the 'maisonettes' if you know which structure I refer to.
I'm pretty certain they are not related just an example of same name different pronunciation.

A big one on our forum is the misspelling of "Lyne" as "Lynne" and such like. Typically this a repeat offence by a small number of frequent posters. It gets worse though, at away games the MCs tend to pronounce it as "Line". I take it the MC needs some new glasses?

I too prefer to call someone by a name other than the one they go by and dress it up in pretensions of respecting them as a person.
