I thought the double movement no-try was a bit harsh, and probably could have been given.
Likewise, the one a minute later that was given for the fingertip on the ball probably should have been disallowed, as he literally just scraped the ball with the end of his finger.

The one on the hooter was wrong. The ball was ripped out, in my opinion, and then it looked like the Tonga full back got a touch on it on the floor. At the very least it should have been a penalty to Tonga, possibly a try.

Capdouoze (or Albert Rosenfeld, or Barry McKenzie, or League Freak or whoever) is just hurting as he predicted Tonga would embarrass Scotland and is now trying to find excuses to put a dampener on what was a fine Scotland victory.

There was me thinking Premier Sports had been doing really well in a great first week for the WC !

How about getting rid of the video referee?
It does the game no favours.
Let the match officials make on the spot decisions just like the players at normal speed.
They will get most right and some wrong just like the players.
It worked for a long time prior to its introduction to the game.

Why is their coverage 10 minutes slow?
Reading my twitter feed, i saw of USA leading 24-20 when it was still 16-16!

They suffered technical issues when the game was meant to kick off. This wasn't just a problem with Premier Sports but worldwide, as they were using the 'world feed'.

As a result, they showed the game in its entirety from the beginning at around 8:15pm, when the game was already 15 minutes old.

Anybody remember an era before Video refs where even an idea and the game of rugby got by very well?

Yes we got on great untill some nerd invented the instant replay. Then all we got was endless arguments that the ref was wrong & we(insert team name) were robbed. I would happily go back to no video ref as long as we had no replays as well.
What I would like is the ref to give his opinion before going to the screen as they do in the NRL.

I wouldn’t give an opinion. It just means the VR judges something with a bias rather than simply his own view of it.

What I would do is split decisions between matters of fact and opinion. Matters of fact to be referred to the VR and matters of opinion handled by the ref. The only exception being violent or dangerous play, which if the on field ref doesn’t see, it is able to be referred .

So obstruction, laying on, messing at the ptb, etc with the on field ref. Onside/offside, touch, grounding etc VR.
