| Quote ="upthecats"We've had the same amount of time as all other clubs currently in Super League.
At the last round of franchises we were one of the best 12 applicants and were awarded a 3 year license .......................................................................... and if we're one of the best 12 then we will be in again.'"
Keen to hear which 2 clubs don't have to apply this time around Are they the same two who didn't aply the first time.....and if so, who were they
Seriously though, once London Broncos went belly up, were re-admitted and then relocated...the RFL shut the door firmly on any grey areas surrounding recievership and financial restructuring.....If Crusaders, or any other team go belly up, then there's an immediate points deduction against the team and a bigger black mark against the application for a licence...as was proved with Widnes.
The club I support are blessed with abenefactor, who has single handedly supported them through some pretty hard times......it is people like him that Super League need...people who see the bigger picture and play the long game....not some who expect to create a SL team from nothing and have it full of local talent in 3 years and in the GF by year 5.
I hope Crusaders can get through this...I have no doubt they will be an asset to SL and European RL in years to come......it just takes time and money with a decent helping of patience

| Starbug, why do you ask for the RFL to be out in the open when people like yourself will make up things regardless?
If we had a book of blank cheques from the RFL as you suggest earlier in this thread do you think we would be in this mess currently.

I thought the idea of Franchising or Licensing was to select the 14 clubs that =#0000FFhad their houses in order.

| Quote ="broster44"It is a sad time for all Crusaders fans and also the sport in general. But the bottom line is the club is a shambles off the field. Apart from the fact they are in Wales they would not be considered for a franchise. The quote on a previous post of fail to plan, plan to fail is very appropriate. But they are where they are so good luck for the sake of the punters who put their hard earned cash into a blatantly corrupt organisation. But, for me, call it quits and come back when you can do yourselves justice.'"
Completely disagree with this... it seems as though unfortunately the club is being hampered by things that went on under the previous regime.
I think Crusaders have done a lot of good this year and have converted me from a naysayer to someone that would like to see them prosper. They've had some bad attendances but they've shown fantastic potential with some really good crowds.
I hope they come out of this.

| To quote Ian Roberts from this morning's North Wales 'Daily Post':
'We're still hpoeful of playing rugby(sic) here next season and are negotiating with the Rugby Football League.
We are trying our best, it's a very difficult business to be involved in, especially in the current climate.'
This is a bit different from yesterday's 99% sure. Also Wrexham FC's up for sale but not Wrexham Village.
Do any of our Widnesian contributers know if there's any activity in their club's admin that could indicate whether they're on alert to be parachuted into SL next season?

I'm not sure to be honest. There are rumours that certain members of the coaching staff are in Australia at the moment and that they will be joined by members of the board shortly to drum up some interest in players for 2012 should we get the licence, but at the moment everything seems to point to us staying in the Championship for one more season at least. We certainly seem to be recruiting to the £300k cap in place in the Champ.

| oh gawd, rlfans is going to explode when they find out that the "Welsh Crusaders" are going to be given a franchise lol. Problem is, the crusaders were fantastic this season, had everything in order. Now "old debts" are rearing their ugly head. Leighton samuel is a scum bag, just ask the celtic Warriors supporters what they think of that .
I think i might just sit back and watch the carnage.

| So, what’s the plan then?
Are they going to do a London, and set up a new company, walking away from their debts?
I wouldn’t mind being a fly on the wall when the RFL try to get the other clubs CEO’s to back the plan.
Maybe Lewis’s tack will be ‘back the new club or you won’t be considered for a licence in 2012’.

I'm coming from the angle that there is a rich history and tradition of well over a hundred years of RL in Wakefield and as such have a much firmer standing as opposed to the few years CC hav been in existance. IMO that gives Wakefield a more solid starting point than CC.
The amount of time before licensing is totally relevant as the foundation stones are long laid with clubs like Wakey. Rugby League wasn't created with the inception of Superleague. You can't just magic a solid club up out of dust.
I'm not having a pop at wakey, merely using them as an example while there are question marks over their credentials.

Advent of licencing, clubs given 3 years. So how do the RFL justify 3 clubs all getting one year each. Celtic Crusaders, then Crusaders, now Welsh Crusaders IF they can find a backer'"
Correct me if I am wrong but haven't the RFL just told Blackpool they cannot do this? Basically saying same club or no club! Yet for Crusaders they'll fully support it...WTF?

The difference between now and when the Broncos' holding company folded and reappeared as a new company the next day, is that now there are rules and sanctions to punish it …

Just let it slide. This is RL in Wales' chance, stronger position than we could have hoped for 5 years ago. Are we going to let all that go to waste because of this?

You’re probably correct, they may avoid the bullet, however, unlike the London project, with their philanthropist, who is going to keep bankrolling the club?

The problem is you can't issue Wakey, Cas, Salford etc with warning letters of franchise promises and yet on the other hand completely ignore other clubs faults. You can't reject Widnes SL bid due to previous owner debts (that had been paid in the take over) yet allow another club simply to wipe them away fully blaming the previous owner.
Though I do admit i'd ten times rather they came out and said look we are bankrolling Crusaders until they hit say 5k crowds weekly with a proper backer in place. Rather than all these under hand deals and 'task forces' helping out. Just be honest and yes we'll hate it but at least we'll know what sort of state or game is rather than waiting for the day they say oh sorry pots empty!
