no, you are wrong.
You are wrong. You are confusing three different things, Banter at a rugby match, bullying, and the use of words, phrases and actions that were used and unfortunately still are, to persecute groups of people it what seems like an attempt to trivialise homophobia.
If a player was 'bullied' as in your two links for being ginger then the club and the rfl would have a duty to deal with. But that isnt what you are talking about with James Graham. You are talking someone mocking someones physical characteristic within the expected banter at a rugby football match.
Homophobia, like racism, is different. For many many years homosexuals and ethnic minorities were persecuted, some terrible atrocities were committed because of these things not all that long ago. When you are homophobic you are using words, phrases and actions which are representative of the attitudes which led to persecution and some terrible terrible things.
Whilst it would be lovely if homophobia and racism didnt exist, and society treated homosexuals no different from people who were overweight or ginger, where singing about a gay man liking anal sex was the same as singing about a fat man liking cake and it held no further connotations, there was no more weight behind the N word than Ginger, it simply isnt the case.
Whilst ever people are and have been persecuted and discriminated against because they are gay, it is unacceptable to say things, and do things which are representative of those attitudes'"
No, you are wrong.
You are wrong. Ginger people, throughout history, like black people and gay people have been persecuted. Ginger people have been hunted down and killed simply because they were ginger. The whole ginger p!ss take of 2010 is a long lost hatred of all people ginger. Our own hatred of all things ginger comes from the fear of not knowing about something that doesn't happen often (ginger hair). Similarly this is often the case with gays and blacks through history. Our fear of ginger has led to people being burnt as witches and vampires, sacrificed to the gods or used as poison and much more. In our own country a fear of the celtic tribes of Scotland and Ireland, who had a high percentage of red heads led us to also have a fear and dislike for all things ginger.
People are telling me that gingers have not been percecuted in history, but they have. Telling me that ginger haired people have not been percecuted recently, which they have. Apparently they haven't been any gingers killed for being ginger, but there has. No ginger haired person has been bullied at school or work for being ginger, but they have. Gays and blacks are born that way and so we shouldn't discrimate against them, but ginger haired people are born that way also. When anyone mentions a gay chant, it's homophobic, but when it's ginger it's banter. You're as bad as the racists and homophobes by dismissing this issue as banter when for many ginger haired people it is cruel torment. Dave Kitson, a ginger haired premier league footballer tried and failed to make people aware of his torment at the hands of thousands of fans chanting ginger jibes at him. How is this any different to what Gareth Thomas suffered? The only difference is that our country sees it as a big joke and those in the minority have to simply put up with it. Other minorities, gays, blacks, asians and the rest do not have to put up with this and if they do they can do something about it.

| Radlinski makes some strong and very valid points in his autobio about the ginger 'racism'.
Sadly idiots always find something to discrimiate against. These are the mindless few that we should all discriminate against.

No, you are wrong, you are also either naive bordering on ignorant, or you yourself harbour some homophobic tendandcies
Giving you the benefit of the doubt, and accepting you are simply naive, maybe you would like to compare the somebody shouting Ginner at James Graham to state sponsored murder of homosexuals in Uganda news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8412962.stm, Iran www.hrw.org/en/news/2005/11/21/i ... al-conduct
or homophobic murder in this very country news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/mers ... 960271.stm and violence news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/mers ... 326810.stm
why dont we compare the list of countries where homosexuality is illegal and where being ginger is illegal? why dont we compare the level of homophobic attacks to the level of Gingerphobic attacks?
Maybe you could tell me if it was before or after 1967 that is was made legal to be a ginger in this country? maybe when the the death penalty for ginger acts was abolished?(1861 for homosexual acts)
maybe you have similar examples of people more recent than the witch trials and celtic history of gingers being murdered? could you share them with the class?
or maybe, just maybe, celtic history isnt really comparable with now. And for the same reason calling someone a witch isnt considered religious discrimination calling someone ginger isnt racist discrimination, nor blondie.
Trying to trivialise homophobia doesnt make Cas' actions any better, or any more acceptable, It just does a huge disservice to the horrors people are still suffering. Excuse me, i have a game to go to.

| Leeds fans quite clearly chanting "There's only one ginger B*****d" at James Graham. Chants are lasting longer and by more fans than the chanting at the Cas ground against Crusaders.
So when will this come before the RFL?

No.
The two or not comparable. Cas's defence is not that homophobic chanting is acceptable, or no big thing – it's that we took reasonable steps against it, proportionate to the actual incident. Judging solely by the club.s statement announcing its appeal, it seems we have an arguable case. Whether we have a winning case we shall wait and see.
Pretending that homophobia is just normal banter, or it's somehow Gareth Thomas's for for not 'taking it like a man', or that the RFL is singling us out for breaching a policy we all knew about (I recall there was a thread on the Cas board when the policy was announced) doesn't strengthen that case, it weakens it.'"

| I'm not at all suggesting this, tb, and completely blame the idiots who gave abuse to Thomas for the situation that we now find ourselve in.
However, I think it is a reasonable comparison to make. The accusation that Cas failed to take action to firstly prevent and then stop the chanting I feel is unfair, but I would be interested to see what steps the Rhinos have done to prevent abusive chanting and then deal with this when it has occured in comparison to us, as the abusive chanting has continued throught the first half I'd suggest the club have done nothing to try and stop it. We were also criticised for failing to take action against the perpetrators, will the Rhinos be investigating and taking action against anyone found to have chanted foul-mouthed abuse at Graham?

"Dear sir/madam,
I am writing to complain about the consistent abusive and expletive-littered chanting directed towards St Helen's player Jame Graham in the first half of the above game. This game is being broadcast on national television, and is therefore being watched across the country by people of all ages, including children.
I first heard this abusive and expletive chant 6 minutes and 38 seconds into the game, and twice again before half time. Did the Leeds Rhinos club issue a statement to the crowd before the game to take steps to avoid such chanting? Nor between the abusive chants did I hear any announcment made to the crowd to try and stop the abusive chanting (the PA system can be heard when all other announcements are made) once it had occured after six minutes nor at any other time, despite the chanting being clearly audible to the TV audience and therefore within the stadium.
As I am currently watching the television with my daughter, I am unable to watch the remainder of the game as I do not wish her to hear such foul and abusive language. I hope that the Leeds Rhinos take steps to identify those responsible for the chanting and take action against them.
I would appreciate your response to this issue, and would be particularly interested to hear details of the steps that Leeds Rhinos have taken to firstly prevent and secondly the steps taken by the club to respond to this abusive chanting which in unacceptable in any sport."

| If that had been cas fans chanting that at graham our fans would get pulled from pillow to post.
Were the steward trying to prevent the chanting, have the club done enough to quell it. Was the respect CD played. Mmmm i wonder.
We are all under the same rules and regulations, or are we.
I'll be waiting with bated breath to see what the outcome comes of this.

I think you have missed the point. Cas didn't get fined because the chanting was homophobic, they were fined for failing to take steps to prevent or stop abusive chanting. The chanting aimed at Graham was abusive and contained foul language, I'm questioning whether Leeds had taken steps to prevent this or respond to it?
And to make it clear, I do not condone any abusive chanting. However, nor do I condone unfairness and in this case the procedure should be the same.

=#8000FFTake it you never watch the news then? and did Leeds control the crowd? no because there were at least 4 offensive chants throughout the game lasting far longer then the "15 seconds combined" at Cas, and in far larger numbers.

| Quote ="SmokeyTA"is it really the same?
have the same things happened in the name of homophobia as anti-gingerism?
are people being murdered because they are ginger right now like they are because of homophobia?
has there being real and actual discrimination against gingers on a wide scale like there has homophobia?
are there countries where there is a death penalty for being ginger like there is for being gay?
was it against the law to be ginger only 50+ years ago like it was to be gay?
are there still legal differences between being ginger and not ginger like there is even now between homosexual and heterosexual couples?
can gingers give blood? gays cant, apparently there is something wrong with 'gay blood'
can gingers get married? can Gays?
has it been in only the last decade that gingers have been allowed to serve in the military? Gays couldnt
Adopt? Gays couldnt
get IVF?Gays couldnt
knowing these things, can you honestly say that anti-gingerism is as serious, widespread and damaging as homophobia'"
read the rfls respect campaign and you will find that it is abuse.
has somebody who has been on many rfl courses including their anti bullying course its taken very seriously at junior club and can have massive repurcussions for any club or person found guilty of bullying.like ive said on another post they have opened up a can of worms and only have themselves to blame because they made the rules and they after act on them if their are any complaints.

=#8000FFThere are laws against bullying & discrimination, which ginger chants fall into both, and did Leeds try and stop it? you can't answer that one can you? the RFL have set the bar now and they have to do it for every club, Leeds did nothing to try and stop it, that is now a fine based on what happened this week.
Quote ="SmokeyTA"nobody has said bullying is ok'"
=#8000FFStop trying to justify the chants then
