| Quote ="AS108"He had to go, it’s all gone very stale at Leeds over the past few seasons and the rugby is awful to watch. Now he’s not got Sinfield, McGuire, Peacock and Burrow he’s come to the end. His record of trophies will make him look a better coach than what he really is. The way that Leeds played on Friday combined with the fairly swift nature of the sacking tells me he’s lost the dressing room as well.
Having watched the As Good As It Gets film it was clear that McDermott and a lot of senior players didn’t agree on a number of things. Now that he’s no longer got a great team he’s been found out. It’ll be interesting to see who they appoint, the ideal candidate should be Powell but I imagine he’d cost too much.'" Am i right in thinking that Powell used to coach at Leeds?...And would he be prepared to go back there?Somehow i doubt it...

Whilst he doesn't own Leeds, he is very much the man holding the purse strings...very tightly too!

| Darryl Powell spotted in Trinity LEEDS this morning, coincidence? I'm led to believe that Powell has been interviewed for the role already.

I think you use of the word Bizarre is bizarre
It is quite common for a coach or player who has been succesdful to become jaded and lose their edge.
He has been very successful in the past only time will tell if he has still got the drive to go on and be successful elsewhere.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him as the next England coach, it will be interesting to see how that works out

Almost didn't understand the last part of your sentence due to the misspelling of "if"...
I wouldn't know if she's been interviewed or not, I'm just passing on the information that I've been told by Pete.

Do you think that he has lost his "edge" or maybe, suffered a crazy amount of injuries and not managed to replace "Sir Kev"
I mean this in a complimentary way but, McDermott will never lose his edge.

| Think now is the right time. He clearly had a great bond with the senior players when he took over (that went back to his time their as assistant in 2004/05) and that played a key role in them being successful come crunch time but with those slowly fading out (JJB will probably retire and Ablett rumoured to be leaving) it leaves hardly anyone left from that group and i don’t feel he has that same connection to the newer group of lads coming through.
Nothing will change what he’s achieved, even though some ‘fans’ have been desperate to in the last 8 years. Some sections of the support just could never be man enough to admit they were wrong about him and have instead tried their hardest to take credit away from him and spread nonsense rumours about him all during his time. It has shown the really true pathetic type of supporter.

| According to the press their last league win was against us. IIRC they were very lucky to even win that game.
McD has survived and done well this long off the back of a team Tony Smith built. Since then their recruitment hasn't been as good, leading to the critical point at the end of 2017 when they finally lost the remains of that very powerful squad. In the early years, the squad virtually picked itself with only a bit of motivation needed. Players like Sinfield, Mags, Burrow, JP actually ran the team. Now they've all gone, McD has finally been exposed.

I don't know the guy, I'm only judging by post match interviews etc and he seemed to me to have lost his drive, a change may be good for and for the club so good luck to him.
With regard to injuries I think Cas and Hull have been in the same boat a Leeds but they have coped better. Perhaps their overall squads are better but again that comes back to the coach
You must admit the last 3 performances have been odd.
Against St Helens Leeds were excellent and would have won if they had had a better goal kicker.
The Catalan game, again they should have held on for a win.
But against Wigan they looked absolutely clueless.
I thought having Myler back
may have helped but if anything they were worse.

The core of that team was in there before Tony Smith arrived. Also McDermott was his assistant in the first 2 years and we went backwards in 2006 after he left for Quinn’s so he more than helped “build that squad” that he later inherited.

Mcdermotts biggest mistake this year, is he has constantly used injuries as an excuse, and kept telling himself and the rest of us, its will be ok when we i get my first choice side on the field. well tats not good enough at this level, there are 5-6 games we should have won and didn't and then the collapse against catalans and the wigan no show were the final straw.

| I think after everything that BM has done for Leeds over the last 8 years that he deserved a more dignified send off than this. Whatever our individual thoughts on who ran the team etc.. he has 8 trophies in 8 years (I think) and so to get rid because he is losing games with probably more than 50% of his cap sat in the stands seems a little off to me. Yes, us and Hull have a lot of injuries and are doing better than Leeds, but I would have thought that McDermott would have had enough credit in the bank to at least have let him finish the season out like Wane is doing at Wigan. He deserved a bit more respect than this. Only my thoughts

Bang on.
After filling the Leeds trophy cabinet, it should be McDermott telling Leeds when he wanted to go or, didn't think he could do the job any longer.

Don't be silly. I agree regards him deserving to part on good terms but nobody gets a job for life as a coach, especially not when you are in charge of one of the biggest clubs in the game.

I'm not advocating a job for life but, the lack of respect shown to the Coach who has brought so much silverware is poor form.
McDermott seems like a proud bloke and one that would want to walk away if the job was too big for him.
Your club hasn't even afforded him the "left by mutual consent" line that is given to far lesser coaches.
Unless he's dug his heels in and said that he wouldnt leave, he appears to have been shat on rather than treated with the respect that he's earned.
Remember, some Leeds fans even wanted rid when you won the treble

He was and is a great coach but it's complete bullpoop to discredit McDermott to say he's just lived off the back of that. That generation of players needed different things from their coaches over time. Smith worked well for a period, Brian McClennan was good for a while but was perhaps too disengaged from the skills side. McDermott came in and found the balance.
What the club needs now with another group of outstanding kids coming through is another Tony Smith to nag them and focus on the fundamentals. Maybe it would appeal to THE Tony Smith but he might also remember how terribly some Leeds fans treated him towards the end. Some things aren't new.
