It's a bizarre and unprofessional statement. If I were a member of the Leigh board of directors I'd be embarrassed to have that statement attributed to me.

What I don't understand, with sporting contracts, is whether there is a differentiation between the players right to resign from their current employer (with a stated notice period) and the clubs hold on that player regarding their player registration.

So perhaps a player can just resign, but a club is unlikely to release their registration until they are either compensated to do so, or the original duration of the player's contract ends.

Don't the RFL have to approve any changes in registrations anyway?
Are Leigh players all full professional players or are some part time? Just thinking if Ryan's original contract was a part time based contract then it could be possible to have a notice period in there I suppose- if further changes have been "extensions" and the original contract not changed.

You are more or less correct. Most contracts do have a clear and stipulated resignation period. Six months is usually the maximum considered reasonable, even if no time period is explicitly stated in the contract.
However, if there is no resignation period in the contract, the employee only needs to give statutory notice. This is based in the length of time employed, ranging from one week to twelve weeks. My assumption is that Ryan Brierely didn't have an explicit clause in his contract allowing him to leave, but does not have a contractual notice period and is therefore able simply to give statutory notice, in his case of four weeks.

However, you are right about his registration. Usually, by signing a contract players agree that their registration is held by a certain club for a period of time. They may well resign, but even then they do not "own" their own registration and therefore cannot play for anyone else.

With Luke Gale, Ben Roberts and Ryan Hampshire I doubt Cas are interested.

I'm not sure, he is nowhere near a proven super league half back. He's done well playing in a dominant lower-league team, but that is very different.

He has been the best player in the Championship for the last two seasons. How can he prove himself in Super League until someone gives him a chance?

Considering some of the ordinary half backs currently plying their trade I would have thought that at least half the teams in Super League would be interested, Leeds and Saints for a start.

Except in neither season has he won the player of the year award. Gaskell last year and ridyard the year before. He was in the running for it this year but didn't win. He won the young player of the year the previous season. He did however play very well consistently across 2 seasons scoring lots of points and grabbing many headlines

As far as im aware those clubs and others have made legitimate enquiries via the Leigh club- Ive looked on the iplayer thingy and there's loads- I can't be bothered to trawl through hours of iplayer stuff to find the particular piece so mention so what's he said is the problem?
