I have visited to watch sport and a couple of times on business , I wasn't impressed , just as we have people on here slating Leigh after 1 visit to the LSV
I don't like any large cities jonny , and I'm not having anybody having a ' pop ' and not getting a reply
Cities are nothing more than groups of small towns all clumped together , and yet some try to make out they are superior , and the people in them superior , they aren't

| this thread was started by a kiwi who says he has to deal with the smell of english people as he lives in london, so if your a kiwi what are you doing in england don't you have a nice country to go back to if england is so bad? London is the capital of england one of the best citys in the world wouldn't really be that bothered if i was from leigh its hardly a great deal not to have a better town than the capital of england. As far as the small attendence there was alot of noise and passion being show as widdop went in for that last try so that makes up for it.

It foes not happen at domestic level so why should it at any other. Fair enough have different prices between stands but not within a stand it's stupid.

met an english chap in Limoges the other day from Haverhill in sleepy suffolk,a town of about 20,000 people - apparently the local Tescos has a check-out 'manned' by polish speaking staff !'"
In my experience of Haverhill supermarkets, most of the checkouts will be 'manned' by Polish speaking staff. It's a new town where most of the population commute to Cambridge or Stansted for work. Any low paid jobs (waitress, bar & shop staff, factory work etc) round here will have mostly East Europeans doing it - and we'd be stuffed without them. If you want a more extreme example, try some of the back lanes through the Cambridgeshire fens and see the 'slow down' signs for drivers written in 15+ European languages. You don't get too many British workers in the fields picking vegetables.
Back on topic - we've had three enjoyable internationals on tv this weekend, all with 10K+ crowds (Aus v NZ, England v Wales, France v Scotland). Well done to Leigh, Warrington & Perpignan - all the events seem to have gone smoothly. Plenty of England cricket matches won't have 10k in attendance, same for GB Davis Cup tennis & I've been to England or Wales RL games in the past that had half that number in attendance. No way can you call this a 'poor' crowd.

| I don't see reason to be embarrassed. We're a small-medium-sized sport - sometimes an extremely entertaining one - trying to increase attendances for national and domestic games. Embarrassment over attendances only comes about through trying to pretend we're something we're very obviously not.

Have you missed a word out? Shouldn't you have said "massively boring international matches". The Rugby Union world cup was the biggest crock of sporting sheeite that's ever been televised. Any Rugby League player that moves to union is doing it purely and simply for the money. The wingers that play for England Rugby Union may as well sit in the stand with the rest of the crowd for the amount they are actually involved in the game.

Not at all. Round here, jobs paying minimum wage tend to be filled by people who don't speak much English. Supermarket staff(for example) do need to speak English & get more than minimum wage. Of course, illegal immigrants working for dubious gangmasters probably get rather less than minimum wage, but they seem to have clamped down pretty hard on that stuff in the past couple of years.

Absolutely RL has rarely got big crowds only England vs Australia in England or Australia and Australia vs. NZ in Australia.wo matches regularly generate crowds over 20k. The crowds so far have been at least as good as expected the LSV being the best all things considered.
RL fans follow clubs rather than follow RL as a sport, which is rather strange only once every 2 or 3 years they get the chance to see the best players in the NRL you would have thought that is a big incentive to go to the matches.

| Rather embarrasing that we couldnt sell it out plus i think the venue needs looking at in future...the car parking was a joke...a steward told us to park where we wanted...the over-flow carpark was a 15min walk down a dual-carriageway with no footpath.....1 poxy bar,2 burger vans and nothing at all for speccies to do who had got there early.

sorry to off topic again but,
so,who are the actual people on the dole then (2.5 million ish ?) ?
is it that the indigenous population - the british don't want these jobs ?
do they automatically get higher paid jobs because they are not 'immigrants' from eastern europe ?
or are the british peolpe quite happy to be on the dole and 'milk' the benefit system where they are better off ?
i'm not taking the p**s,just asking out of pure ignorance

Political question, I guess; you could give plenty of different answers. One big one is that the jobs are often in different places from where the unemployed are and there are all kinds of reasons why people can't easily relocate (cost of housing being one.)
For the jobs picking veg in the fields in the fens, the British don't want these jobs. If you're a young East European and don't mind spending a few months living in a caravan with half a dozen mates so you can save up enough to buy a house when you go home, then it makes perfect sense. Not so, if you're a middle aged, recently redundant Briton with a family & mortgage to pay.
For the jobs I interview people for, paying £30-60k, we don't get any British applicants because there are almost no British people graduating with degrees in electronics and that's been the case for 10+ years.

There are plenty of British unemployed would love to do these jobs, the issue is that they only last for a few weeks and they are back signing on, the way the system works makes it bloody hard to sign off for a few weeks work then sign on again without any agrro.
